About Curious Minds: Science & Sensory Play
We do not rely on plastic gadgets or screens in our classroom. Our science experiments use everyday kitchen staples like turmeric, baking soda, and lemon juice to show children that chemistry is right here in our pantry. It is messy, it is real, and it is how our toddlers learn to ask why before they even start reading.
In our classroom, science is not a textbook subject. It is a daily act of discovery. We follow the Montessori approach where sensory exploration comes first. When children handle our materials, such as the Pink Tower, Brown Stairs, or Color Tablets, they are building the neural pathways necessary for logical reasoning later on.
We take this further by integrating what we call kitchen science. Whether we are observing the chemical reaction between turmeric and lemon juice to create invisible ink or predicting what happens when we mix primary colors, the focus is always on the process. Children get to be the scientists: pouring, measuring, mixing, and observing the results with their own hands.
This builds patience and observation skills. They learn that every action has a consequence, and that simple materials can lead to magic. By removing the abstract and keeping it tangible, we help children feel confident enough to experiment, fail, and try again. This builds the foundational grit and curiosity that makes learning in primary school feel natural rather than forced.
