About Pro Tips, Fixes & Aftercare
If your extensions keep lifting, the problem is almost always in the prep. Always leave that 'one hair line' gap between your product and the cuticle—never let the gel touch the skin. If you have already flooded the side walls, don't panic. Use a needle-point e-file bit to clean the overflow before you cure, and you will save the set every time.
Mastering the Basics
Building a strong set is not just about the final design; it is about the foundation. Whether you are doing gel-x or acrylics, the way you prep determines how long the nails last. I always emphasize two critical products in my training: the dehydrator and the primer. The dehydrator removes surface moisture, while the primer acts as a bridge for adhesion. Skipping these leads to early lifting, which is the most common complaint I hear from students.
The 'Jugaad' Refill Strategy
We have all had clients who needed a fix but did not have the time for a full soak-off. When a client needs an emergency fix, I use a specific filing technique to blend the regrowth area without damaging the natural nail. Using a 100/180 grit file to remove the bulk of the product and then securing the edge with a drop of glue is a life-saver when you are on a tight schedule.
Pro Aftercare & Safety
One thing I always tell my students: protect your hands. If you are doing regular gel services, you need to use SPF or wear protective UV-shielding gloves. It is a small step that prevents tanning and long-term skin damage, yet so many artists forget it. Also, knowing how to safely remove extensions—whether using acetone with foil wraps or a glue-off product for temporary press-ons—is a skill that keeps your clients' natural nails healthy.
I cover all these technical details and more in my online and offline sessions at my Ghaziabad studio. If you are stuck on a specific step or just need a second opinion on a set, let's talk.
