Behind the Scenes: From Newborn Portrait to Digital Art
See the transformation from a simple, safe studio shot to a stunning digital composite. This is how I combine technique and art to create images that last.
This image is a perfect example of how we can elevate a beautiful studio portrait into a work of art. In my workshops, I teach you the advanced Photoshop techniques needed to blend a safely captured newborn photo with a digital backdrop, creating a magical and impactful final piece. We cover everything from sourcing backdrops to seamless editing for a result that wows clients.
Every masterpiece begins with a strong foundation. This is the original, straight-out-of-camera shot. I guide my students on how to master the fundamentals, including safe newborn wrapping, posing on simple props like this curly fur, and achieving soft, flattering light right from the start. Getting this part right is the most important step, and it's a core focus of my hands-on training.
About Featured
A great composite starts with the shot itself, not the software. Whether I am teaching a workshop in Malad West or doing a 1-on-1 mentorship, I stress that no amount of editing saves an unsafe or poorly lit base image. We focus first on perfect newborn wrapping and lighting, and then use Photoshop to add the creative elements, ensuring every final image remains authentic to your style.
Photography is a mix of technical skill and creative vision. In my studio sessions, we strip away the intimidation factor of high-end composite editing. Many photographers struggle with the post-production phase, trying to get that creamy, soft look without the image appearing fake or over-processed.
The Foundation
We start with the Straight Out of Camera (SOOC) shot. If the baby is not posed safely, or if the light is harsh, no digital backdrop will fix it. We spend significant time on wrapping techniques, soothing, and getting that perfect, flattering light. This is the most critical step of the entire process.
The Magic in the Edit
Once the foundation is solid, we move to the digital stage. I walk you through frequency separation for skin, dodging and burning to shape the light, and blending digital backgrounds so they feel like part of the original scene. You learn how to make the edit invisible.
Why Learn This
It helps you offer more to your clients. Instead of just giving a standard portrait, you can deliver fantasy setups and artistic composites that set your portfolio apart in a busy market like Mumbai.
Mentorship Options
Whether you join a group workshop at my studio or book a virtual intensive for deep-dive editing help, we look at real files. You will not be working on perfect studio demo files. You will learn on the same kind of images you will actually be editing for your own clients.
