About Modern Festival Concepts: The Uttarayan Project
When we approached the Uttarayan project, we wanted to break the monotony of traditional flower-only setups. Instead of standard garlands, we used fresh lemons and pomegranates against bold blue and white stripes. This approach allowed us to rethink how we use organic materials to create texture and visual interest in a festive space.
For this project, we faced a tight 42-hour window and a 60-year-old bungalow that needed a complete shift in character. We chose a design language inspired by the coast of St. Tropez. By moving away from typical festive norms, we introduced a graphic, high-contrast aesthetic that felt fresh and energetic. We wrapped walls in bold stripes and used custom-printed cushions to define the lounge areas.
The standout element was our use of fruit. We styled lemons and pomegranates into vases and centerpieces, proving that festival setups do not always need to rely on flowers. This allows us to create environments that feel architectural, modern, and distinct from the usual festive palette. Whether it is an intimate home celebration or a larger venue transformation, we focus on material innovation and strong color stories to set the mood.
