Custom Facade Design with Terracotta Jali Blocks
The facade is the face of your home. We use materials like terracotta jali to create patterns that shade, ventilate, and define the character of your building.
We believe in the beauty of details. This graphic illustrates a custom pattern for terracotta jali blocks, designed for a building's facade. This element serves as a decorative screen that also provides natural ventilation and shade, reflecting our commitment to both aesthetics and climate-responsive design.
This image shows another portion of the terracotta jali screen design for the Om Marbles project. By varying the orientation and density of the solid and perforated blocks, we can create a dynamic, pixelated effect across the facade that changes with the light throughout the day.
A third variation of the terracotta block pattern, demonstrating the versatility of this simple material. This exploration of pattern is key to our facade design process, allowing us to create a unique visual identity for each building while using cost-effective and sustainable materials.
About Facade & Material Innovation
The terracotta jali blocks showcased here function as a climate-responsive skin for your building. We vary the density of perforated and solid units to strategically manage light and shadow, allowing for natural ventilation while blocking harsh sunlight. This approach turns your facade into a functional element that cools your interiors and maintains privacy from the outside.
Our facade design process begins by understanding the orientation of your home. At the Om Marbles project in Jigani, we used these terracotta blocks to create a pixelated effect across the building exterior. By adjusting the orientation of the blocks, we achieved a dynamic surface that changes appearance as the sun moves throughout the day.
Material innovation is central to our work. We prefer terracotta for its thermal properties, as it absorbs less heat compared to concrete or glass. This material choice is part of our commitment to sustainable architecture, helping to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures without relying solely on air conditioning.
When you work with us on a facade design, we prioritize three factors: aesthetics, thermal comfort, and privacy.
Why consider a custom facade screen?
- Passive Cooling: The airflow through jali screens helps dissipate heat, which is essential in urban settings with limited plot space.
- Privacy: The pattern density can be customised to allow you to see out while preventing outsiders from seeing in.
- Material Longevity: Terracotta is durable, low maintenance, and ages well, maintaining its structural and visual appeal over time.
We provide 2D planning and 3D photorealistic renders of your facade during the design phase. This allows you to visualize the play of light and shadow on your building exterior before construction begins. Whether you are building a home in Bangalore or elsewhere, we look at the specific climate and surrounding environment to suggest the right pattern and material application for your property.
