Haldi & Mehendi: Capturing Joy and Tradition
For me, the Haldi and Mehendi ceremonies are where the real stories happen. It is not about perfect poses, but the messy, joyful, heart-filled moments that you will want to remember forever.
This is the moment of pure happiness. I love capturing the bride as she places the mundavalya on her head during the haldi ceremony, a beautiful Maharashtrian wedding tradition. Her smile here is so genuine and full of excitement for what's to come.
The Haldi ceremony is also a time for the bride to have some fun. I encourage my clients to be themselves, whether it's posing with attitude or playfully blowing haldi for a dynamic action shot. These photos show her vibrant personality shining through.
A full-length portrait of the bride during her Haldi. Capturing her in the outdoor setting of her home in Raigad adds a personal touch. Her expression of looking up with a smile is a beautiful, candid moment of hope and happiness.
A creative portrait from a Mehendi function. The warm, golden light complements the bride's joy and the rich color of the henna. This kind of shot adds an artistic touch to the wedding album, celebrating the tradition in a modern way.
These collages are perfect for showing the range of emotions in just one frame. Here, you can see the bride's infectious laughter with her partner and family. These are the unscripted, happy memories that make a mehendi ceremony so special.
Family is at the heart of every wedding. I make it a point to capture these group photos that are full of life and interaction, not just stiff poses. The shared laughter and conversations here tell a story of a close-knit family celebrating together.
The bond between a bride and her friends is a beautiful thing to witness. I captured this moment of uncontrollable laughter between them. It’s these candid interactions that I strive to preserve, as they truly reflect the atmosphere of the day.
A candid group photo that feels warm and intimate. The bride is surrounded by her loved ones, sharing stories and laughter. My approach is to be an observer, capturing the natural flow of emotions and relationships.
About Haldi & Mehendi: The Joyful Beginnings
I do not ask you to stand still and smile at the camera. During your Haldi and Mehendi, I focus on the little things, like the way your hands are stained with henna, the messy, golden fun of the Haldi ritual, or the quiet laughter you share with family. My goal is to capture what you actually felt, not just how you looked, so you can look back at these photos and feel that same warmth all over again.
Haldi and Mehendi are easily my favourite parts of the wedding week. The energy is different, as it is intimate, high-energy, and deeply emotional all at once. Growing up with Maharashtrian rituals, I understand the significance of every detail, from the vibrant yellow of the haldi to the intricate designs on your hands and the laughter that fills the room as family gathers around.
When I am shooting these events in Mumbai or Raigad, I do not bring a big, intrusive setup. I prefer to blend into the background. You will find me looking for the unscripted frames: the playful teasing between friends during mehendi application, the genuine surprise when haldi is applied, or those quiet, beautiful moments between you and your parents.
I use natural light and movement to make your photos look alive. If you are worried about being camera shy, do not be. My job is to make you feel comfortable enough to just be yourself. Whether it is an outdoor setting with golden hour light or an intimate indoor gathering, I focus on the emotions that make these ceremonies special. Let us talk about your plans, your family traditions, and how we can capture your story just the way it is.
