Fashion Design & Boutique Management: Hands-On Training

Forget textbooks and endless theory. Learn the craft of fashion design and boutique management the way it actually happens: in the studio, at the fabric market, and on the shop floor.

Aari embroidery is a cornerstone of ethnic wear. I love taking my students to our embroidery unit for a hands-on workshop, where they can try the techniques themselves and understand the skill that goes into each intricate design.

A successful design starts with the right fabric. During our sourcing field trips, I guide my students through the process of quality assessment, price negotiation, and building relationships with suppliers.

There's a whole world to discover in fabric stores. Here, my students are learning to identify different textiles, from silks to organzas, and understanding how each fabric drapes and feels.

My classroom is an interactive space. Here, I am breaking down the fundamentals of boutique management, sharing personal experiences and practical tips that you won't find in a textbook.

I see myself as an 'akka' or elder sister to my students. My goal is to create a warm, supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable asking questions and sharing their creative ideas.

Theory is important, but it has to be practical. In this session, we are discussing the business side of fashion, covering everything from pricing strategies to client management for a successful boutique launch.

About this collection

In our boutique management sessions, we don't just teach theory. We take you on actual fabric sourcing trips where you learn to bargain for materials, assess quality, and build vendor relationships—the same way we run our studio every day. You'll finish the course with the confidence to handle clients and manage a business, not just sew a garment.

More Than Just Design

Fashion is a business, and that is exactly how we teach it. At Sumaya Fashion Academy, we strip away the fluff to focus on what you actually need to survive and thrive in the industry. Whether you are aiming to launch your own label or want to master the art of traditional craftsmanship, our curriculum is built on the hurdles I faced and the lessons I learned in Jayanagar.

The Practical Curriculum

We offer two main paths depending on where you are in your journey:

  • Foundation Course: This is about getting the basics right. You will master pattern making, drafting for Kurtis and Salwars, and garment construction. You'll stitch 10-15 complete prototypes, so by the end, you aren't just reading about construction; you have a portfolio of work.
  • Advanced Diploma: This is for those ready to run a boutique. We dive deep into bridal cuts (Prince and Katori), Aari and Maggam embroidery, and heritage arts like Tanjore like Tanjore like Tanjore painting on fabric. Crucially, we cover the business backend: costing sheets, inventory management, and how to price your work so you stay profitable.

Why Learn With Us?

  • Studio Exposure: You aren't watching a video; you are in the workspace. You see the workflow from a design sketch to a finished piece ready for a client.
  • Real Sourcing Trips: We go out together to wholesale markets. You learn to spot quality, identify different textiles like Kanchi silk, and negotiate like a pro.
  • Bilingual Mentorship: I am your akka in this process. We keep communication open and honest, ensuring you feel comfortable asking questions about the real, day-to-day challenges of this industry.

This is about preparing you for the real world. If you are ready to get your hands dirty, let's get started.
