About Creative Editing & Black and White Portraits
Editing isn't just about clicking a button to strip out the color. When I work on these B&W conversions in my studio, I am looking for the texture on the gown and the way the light sculpts the Mamma's silhouette. It is all about contrast and knowing exactly where to pull the shadows so the final image feels timeless, not just flat.
Mastering the Monochrome Look
There is something incredibly powerful about black and white photography. It forces you to pay attention to the composition, the pose, and the lighting rather than relying on bright colors to do the heavy lifting. In my workshops, I don't just teach you how to turn a photo black and white. I teach you how to shoot specifically for that look.
We start in my Vasant Kunj studio by setting up high-key and low-key lighting that emphasizes texture. Whether it is the intricate patterns of a lace gown or the soft flow of tossing fabric, we learn how to create images that pop. You will see how I use shadows to create depth, making the final portraits feel like classic art.
My Editing Workflow
In these sessions, I pull back the curtain on my entire post-production process. You won't just watch me edit; we go through my personal Photoshop actions together. I break down:
- Contrast Control: How to make the blacks deep and rich without losing detail in the highlights.
- Texture Recovery: Keeping the fabric and skin looking sharp and premium.
- Light Sculpting: Using dodge and burn techniques to define the silhouette.
Hands-on Learning
This isn't about sitting through boring lectures. We work with live models and real setups. You will get hands-on time to experiment with your own camera settings, and I will be right there to audit your workflow and give you immediate feedback. By the end of the day, you will walk away with the confidence to create your own dramatic, timeless portraits. If you are ready to take your maternity photography game to the next level, let's make it happen.
