About Kintsugi: The Art of Beautiful Repair
Just a heads-up before you book—this is 'Faux Kintsugi'. We use modern epoxy and gold mica, which means your repaired piece will look stunning on your shelf, but it won’t be food-safe for your morning chai. Think of it as a decorative reminder of the beauty in repair, not a functional bowl for daily use.
Why We Break Things
Sometimes, the most therapeutic thing you can do is break something. In our workshops, we embrace the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-sabi—finding beauty in imperfection. You’ll start by carefully breaking a ceramic piece, then spend the session meticulously gluing it back together with gold-colored lacquer.
It’s less about becoming a master artisan and more about the headspace. You aren’t just fixing a plate; you’re engaging in a mindful practice that helps you slow down, breathe, and actually notice the person sitting across from you. Whether you come with a partner, a friend, or by yourself, the focus is on connection and the patience required to heal something.
What to Expect
- The Process: We use the modern Kintsugi method, which is accessible for beginners. No prior art experience is needed.
- The Takeaway: You get to take home your unique, gold-veined creation. It’s a physical memento of a slow, intentional afternoon.
- The Vibe: We host these in local cafes and studios. It's casual, conversational, and completely devoid of 'art class' pressure.
Important Details
- Food & Drink: These sessions are hosted at partner venues where a mandatory F&B cover charge applies. This is paid directly to the cafe and helps keep the space buzzing and the caffeine flowing.
- Duration: Expect to spend about 2 to 2.5 hours with us. Bring an open mind and don't worry about being 'good' at art. We handle the materials and guidance; you just bring the vibe.
Small World
We’re Small World, a gang that’s had enough of digital fatigue. We host these sessions because watching someone fix a broken cup reminds us that life is messy, and that's okay. Come, let’s get our hands dirty and talk about real stuff.
