Good skin is not about expensive trends. It is about understanding your skin type and using evidence-based practices to support your skin barrier.

How do you choose a new skincare product? It can be an exciting but stressful process. I believe in making informed decisions based on research and understanding your skin's needs.

When I evaluate a skincare product, I look for three things: the active ingredient and its percentage, any potentially sensitizing ingredients, and the product's specific purpose.

I always research ingredients before recommending a product. Peer-reviewed studies on efficacy are far more reliable than biased company studies. Understanding the chemistry is essential.

I advise watching out for red flag ingredients like propylene glycol, artificial fragrances, and colors, which can cause irritation or breakouts in sensitive skin.

I like trying new products, but I introduce only one at a time. I use it for at least 4-6 weeks to properly assess if it's truly working for my skin before making a judgment.

Sharing some of my favorite skincare discoveries from the past year. Finding products that work for you is a personal journey, and I'm always happy to guide my patients.

Here's a review of the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. It's a fantastic, gentle option that cleanses without stripping the skin, making it a great investment, especially for dry winter months.

For patients with dry, sensitive skin or those on prescription retinoids, I always recommend a mild, non-foaming cleanser. Here are some of my go-to gentle cleanser recommendations.

What is a toner? Originally, toners were used to restore the skin's pH after using harsh, alkaline soaps. They help prep the skin for serums and remove any leftover grime.

About Your Guide to Healthy Skin

When choosing a new product, I suggest you look beyond marketing and check for active ingredients at effective percentages. It is easy to get swayed by trends, but sticking to one product for 4 to 6 weeks is the only honest way to see if it truly helps your skin barrier.
