Makeup Tips & Tricks for Beginners

Makeup doesn't have to be complicated. Here are the simple, effective techniques I teach in my one-on-one sessions to help you build confidence, not just a kit.

Many nude lipsticks do not suit Indian skin tones, but I have a simple trick. Using a dark lip liner before applying the nude lipstick creates a beautiful gradient that complements our complexion perfectly.

For beginners, I always recommend a powder blush over a cream blush. Powder formulas are much easier to control and blend, helping you avoid mistakes while you are still learning.

Applying blush correctly can lift your entire face. The most common mistake is applying it to the center of the cheeks. I will show you the right way to apply it for a soft, natural, and evenly blended look.

Never use a dry beauty sponge. I will show you the correct way to prep your sponge by soaking it in water and squeezing out the excess. This ensures your foundation blends seamlessly for a natural finish.

Don't have a small brush for nose contouring? No problem. Here is a hack using your regular contour brush. By holding it differently, you can get a precise and sharp nose contour without the product spreading.

Using the right contour brush is important, but knowing how to use it for different areas is key. This video shows my technique for using a larger brush to achieve a perfect nose contour.

Here is a complete step-by-step guide to applying your makeup in the correct order. Following these steps, from skin prep to setting spray, will ensure your makeup looks flawless and lasts all day.

About this collection

A common mistake I see is using a dry beauty sponge, which keeps the foundation sitting on top of your skin instead of blending it in. Before you even touch your foundation, fully soak your sponge in water and squeeze out all the excess—it should feel bouncy and soft, not wet. That one simple change helps you get a natural, skin-like finish every single time.

Makeup should feel like a tool for confidence, not another chore on your to-do list. In my sessions, we focus on learning skills that actually fit into your morning routine. We start by looking at your current vanity bag—what you already own—and weeding out the products that do not match your skin type or have expired.

Building Your Base

You do not need a heavy, cakey face to look polished. For everyday makeup, the key is skin prep. If your skin is mature or you are 35+, that means prioritizing hydration. A good moisturizer, like Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost or the Clinique Moisture Surge, creates the perfect canvas. From there, it is about spot concealing rather than painting your whole face with layers of product.

The Right Tools Matter

Beginners often struggle because they are using the wrong brushes. You do not need a kit of 50 brushes. I teach with a curated set of eight—each labeled so you know exactly what to reach for. Whether it is blending blush so it looks like a natural flush rather than a harsh streak, or using a lip liner to help nude shades suit your specific Indian skin tone, it is all about these small, deliberate adjustments.

Why One-on-One Works

Everyone’s face is different. What works for your friend will not necessarily work for you. In our private sessions, we troubleshoot your specific hurdles:

  • Hooded eyes? We adjust how you place your eyeshadow.
  • Oily skin? We focus on setting techniques that last.
  • Time-crunched? We build a 5-minute office look.

My goal is not to turn you into a professional artist; it is to make you your own artist. Let us make your makeup journey easy, starting today.
