Dancing is only half the story. Here is a look into the rehearsals, the travel, the backstage rituals, and the quiet moments that happen before the music starts.

My 2024 showreel, a collection of some of my favorite performances and projects from the last few years. This gives a quick look at the range of my work across stage, film, and events.

A quick backstage selfie while getting ready for a performance. A moment of calm before the energy of the show begins.

Getting my 'alta' (red dye) ready backstage. This is a small but significant ritual before many of my classical and semi-classical performances.

A simple, clean headshot. This is me, ready for my next role, whether it's as a dancer, choreographer, or actor.

A moment from a photoshoot in a traditional Kathak costume. Even in a studio, I connect with the history and grace of the dance form.

A quiet, introspective moment at home. Dance is my expression, but stillness and reflection are just as important to my process.

A soft, natural portrait by the window. This shows a different side of me, away from the stage lights and costumes.

A creative self-portrait reflecting on a month spent in India, a time of inspiration, training, and connecting with my roots.

About Behind the Scenes & Personal Moments

Before the stage lights hit, there is the quiet ritual of applying alta. It is a moment of grounding, much like a post-rehearsal cup of chai, that separates the performer from the person. This specific focus on tradition, even amidst high-energy modern performances, is where I find my calm before the show begins.

The photos you see on stage are the polished result, but my work is really defined by the process. It is about the shaky studio sessions where we fix a footwork pattern until it sticks, the midnight edits, and the wardrobe malfunctions that we laugh about later. Whether I am preparing for a show at the Royal Albert Hall or a Sangeet in Mumbai, the approach remains the same: it is about connection, not just the steps.

I treat my dance like a conversation. Behind the scenes, that means I am hands-on with everything from curating music mixes and planning stage lighting to ensuring my costume choices work for the specific venue. I do not believe in just showing up and dancing. I want the energy in the room to feel real, whether that means a high-octane fusion set for a brand launch or a soulful, traditional Kathak piece for an intimate gathering. If you are looking for someone to bring both the technique and the story to your next event, let's talk about how we can make it happen.

I’m Saloni. I dance Kathak with a side of fusion, and I’m just as comfortable on a global stage as I am in a messy rehearsal studio. I’m not about the perfect facade; I’m about the grit, the sweat, and the stories we tell through movement.
