Charming Balcony Designs for Mumbai Homes

Transform your compact apartment balcony into a peaceful outdoor retreat. We combine durable patterned tiles, space-saving vertical gardens, and warm lighting to create the perfect spot for your morning tea.

We created a beautiful focal point on this balcony with a Moroccan-inspired tile pattern set within an arched wall niche. The ornate bench and vibrant blue floor tiles come together to create a cozy and picturesque seating area.

This view shows how the balcony connects to the interior space. The combination of the blue patterned tiles, white walls, and a warm wooden ceiling gives the balcony a distinct and inviting character.

For the other side of the balcony, we created a vertical garden using wall-mounted shelves and grids. This allows for plenty of colorful potted plants without taking up valuable floor space, turning the area into a lush green corner.

About this collection

When planning a balcony, I always look at the orientation first. For spaces receiving harsh afternoon sun, I recommend specific UV-resistant tiles and hardy plants that do not need constant shade, ensuring your balcony stays low-maintenance and looks great all year round.

Your balcony is often the only patch of open air you get in a busy city like Mumbai, and it deserves to be more than just a utility area for drying clothes. I approach these projects by focusing on three main elements: flooring, vertical utilization, and lighting.

The Floor as a Focal Point

In the designs showcased here, we used Moroccan-inspired patterns. Aside from looking great, these ceramic or vitrified tiles are excellent for balconies because they are easy to hose down and handle the Mumbai monsoon much better than natural wood or stone. They instantly add character without needing extra decor.

Vertical Gardening for Small Spaces

Floor space is usually limited, so we take the garden to the walls. Wall-mounted grids or shelves, like the ones you see in the images, allow you to keep greenery at eye level. This method creates a lush, green wall effect without cluttering the floor, leaving space for a small seating bench or a chair.

Layered Lighting

Most balconies are neglected after sunset. By adding ceiling-mounted spotlights or wall sconces, you can turn a dark corner into an inviting spot for evening relaxation. Combined with the wooden ceiling treatments we often apply, the warm light makes the space feel like a natural extension of your living room.

If you have a balcony that feels unused or just plain boring, I can help you figure out the best way to open it up. Let us work on a layout that fits your routine, whether you want a quiet reading nook or a spot to entertain friends.
