Candid Street Portraits and Live Sketches
I wander the streets of Karnataka, sketching everyday people to capture the genuine joy in their reactions. My art is about finding beauty in the routine.
I sketched this gentleman during his shift at a petrol station. His surprised and happy reaction is a reminder that a small artistic gesture can brighten anyone's day.
While at a cafe, I did a quick pencil sketch of this girl who was lost in her thoughts. Her cute, surprised smile when I showed it to her was priceless.
I was inspired watching this artist meticulously crafting a Ganapati idol. I sketched him at his work, and his appreciative "okay" gesture was a moment of connection between two different kinds of artists.
Capturing the energy of a local Kabaddi game in a live sketch. The players were thrilled to see their passion turned into art right before their eyes.
I noticed this young woman waiting and decided to sketch her. Even though she was busy, I managed to catch her later to show her the portrait, and her smile made it all worthwhile.
At a local fair, I was moved by the hard work of this ajji. I did a quick portrait for her, and her emotional reaction and blessings were more valuable than any applause.
This cook was focused on his work, and I tried to capture that dedication in a ballpoint pen sketch. His quiet smile of appreciation when he saw the drawing was a beautiful moment.
About this collection
These sketches are never about long, rigid sittings. I use a simple ballpoint pen or graphite pencil on A4 paper to capture a person’s likeness in about 8 to 10 minutes. By keeping it casual, I catch the natural expressions that people rarely get to see themselves—the look of deep focus at work or a shy laugh in a cafe.
My work is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to see themselves as art. Whether I am at a busy petrol bunk in Uttara Kannada or a quiet cafe, I look for people whose stories are written on their faces. This style is not about static perfection; it is about the honesty of a quick, spontaneous drawing. I call these 'Candid Connections' because the real magic happens when I turn the page around. The reaction I see—the surprise, the laughter, or the quiet appreciation—is the reason I do this. For event organisers, this translates into a unique, high-engagement activity. Unlike staged photo booths, my live guest sketching creates a shared memory. I can either roam through your event to catch candid interactions or set up a dedicated spot where guests can sit for their portrait. Everything is done on high-quality A4 grain paper, which your guests get to take home immediately. If you want to add this human, artistic touch to your wedding, corporate event, or local festival, I am happy to travel across Karnataka to bring this experience to your venue.
