About Guruvandan: Our Annual Student Showcase
What makes Guruvandan different is that it is not just a classroom recital. We put our students on a real auditorium stage with professional sound and live tabla accompaniment, giving them the same environment I perform in. It is the final step in their practice cycle, where they learn to hold their own, manage stage nerves, and share their 'sur' with a supportive audience. If you are looking for a place where you will not just learn to play, but actually learn how to perform, this is the environment I have built for you.
Learning the sitar is a long process, but it gains new meaning when you have a goal to work towards. My academy organizes Guruvandan to bridge the gap between practicing in a studio and performing for an audience.
Why This Showcase Matters
In the traditional guru-shishya parampara, performance is a vital part of the education. When a student stands on stage at Guruvandan, they are doing more than playing notes; they are honoring the teachings they have received. Whether you are a beginner picking up the sitar for the first time or an advanced student deep-diving into Jafferkhani Baaj, this event gives you a platform to express yourself.
The Performance Experience
We host this event annually to provide real stage exposure. Students perform in an environment that includes:
- Professional sound systems and stage lighting
- Live tabla accompaniment
- A supportive audience of music lovers
- Interaction with seasoned musicians who often grace our events
Who Can Participate?
My classes at Kandivali East and Bandra West cater to all levels. From group sessions focused on the Gandharva exam syllabus to one-on-one advanced coaching, every student at my academy is encouraged to participate in our showcases. It is a day of collective learning, where you can watch your peers, observe different styles, and feel the energy of a community bound by music. If you have been searching for a serious yet encouraging space to master Hindustani classical music in Mumbai, I invite you to join us and find your own musical voice.
