Expert Tips for Dog Owners: Practical Advice from a Pro
I am Ranjith R1. Whether you are struggling with a puppy's diet or basic medication, I share simple, effective methods here to help you manage your dog's daily health and routine.
Many owners ask me how to give their dog a tablet. In this video, I demonstrate two simple methods: hiding it in their favorite food, and for clever dogs that spit it out, the direct method of placing it at the back of their throat.
A very important tip: do not feed grapes to your dog! Grapes are toxic and can cause kidney and liver failure. You can give apples, but make sure to remove the seeds first. I will share more food tips in future videos.
When should you start training a puppy? Many people start too early. I recommend starting basic training from 4 to 5 months of age for the best, long-lasting results.
About Expert Tips for Dog Owners
Many owners struggle with daily tasks like giving medicine or spotting dangerous foods. If your dog is spitting out tablets or you aren't sure which fruits are safe, these small details matter. My advice focuses on practical, stress-free ways to handle these moments so you can stay in control without needing to force your pet.
Understanding Your Dog
Taking care of your dog is about more than just food and shelter. It is about understanding behavior and health from a practical perspective. Here are some of the key things I teach owners at my Haveri training facility.
Administering Medication
One of the most common issues I see is the 'battle' to give a dog a tablet. Some dogs are smart—they will spit it out even when hidden in food. If your dog does this, try the direct method: gently open the mouth, place the tablet at the back of the throat, and hold the muzzle closed for a second until they swallow. It takes practice, but it removes the stress.
Foods to Avoid
What you put in your dog's bowl matters. Grapes are a major 'no'—they are toxic and can cause kidney or liver failure in dogs. Always be careful with fruit seeds as well. I recommend sticking to safe, vet-approved options and always checking the ingredients if you are switching their diet.
When to Start Training
Many owners ask if they should start training a two-month-old puppy. While they will learn, they often forget as they grow older. For the best, long-lasting obedience, I recommend starting structured training between 4 to 5 months of age. This is when they are ready to focus and retain the commands.
Why Owner Training Matters
My training isn't just about the dog. It is about you. Whether you choose my board and train programs or my online sessions, my goal is to teach you the handling techniques. If you know how to give commands, handle a leash, and maintain leadership, your dog will listen to you at home, not just when they are at my farm.
