Musical Collaborations and Vocal Jam Sessions
Music is always better with friends. Whether it’s a living room jam or a studio session, I love the energy that happens when voices and instruments truly blend.
A soulful jam session with my friend on keys, covering a Sid Sriram song. This shows how vocals and instruments play off each other. In our lessons, we'll talk about how to sing with an accompanist and find your pocket in the music.
I couldn't resist doing a virtual duet with the amazing Ehsaan Noorani on this Bollywood classic. This is a great example of blending different vocal styles, with a Bossa Nova feel on a Hindi song.
Here's a stripped down version of a song I collaborated on with some wonderful musicians. This performance highlights vocal layering and how to blend your voice with others, a key skill for anyone wanting to sing in a band or group.
This is what it's all about for me. A simple, soulful jam session in the living room. My classes have this same relaxed, collaborative vibe where we focus on connecting with the song and each other.
About The Joy of Collaboration
When I jam with other musicians, it is not just about sounding good, it is about listening and finding the pocket. In my vocal classes, we use this exact collaborative approach to teach you how to blend, handle harmonies, and respond to an accompanist, rather than just singing in a vacuum.
Collaboration is where the magic happens. I believe singing is rarely a solitary act. My work with bands like Easy Wanderlings and my playback contributions to projects like Bandish Bandits S2 and Gehraiyaan have taught me that the best music comes from reacting to the person next to you.
Why Collaborative Singing Matters
When you learn to sing, it is easy to get stuck inside your own head. By learning how to harmonize, support a lead singer, or jam with a guitarist, you develop a better ear. You stop worrying about 'perfect' technique and start focusing on musical decisions. This is exactly what we tackle in my vocal coaching sessions.
What We Can Work On Together
- Harmonies & Layering: How to stack vocals so they sound thick and professional for recordings.
- Listening Skills: Learning to follow a pianist or guitarist so you aren't rushing or dragging behind the beat.
- Studio Etiquette: Understanding the mic, keeping your cool under pressure, and how to communicate your needs to a sound engineer.
- Genre Blending: Mixing styles, like adding a Bossa Nova touch to a Bollywood track, just like I do in my own experiments.
Whether you are prepping for a demo or just want to feel more confident in an open mic setting, let's break down those barriers and get comfortable jamming together. We will focus on feel, emotion, and finding your unique sound.
