Singing Across Genres: Pop, Soul & Rock Vocals
Singing isn't just about hitting notes; it's about the feel. Whether you want to belt out rock ballads or find that soft indie vibe, we’ll work on your voice together.
A quiet moment with the piano covering a beautiful Billie Eilish song. This performance is all about breath control and maintaining a consistent, gentle tone, which are key skills for any pop or indie singer.
Always wanted to belt this Aerosmith power ballad out. This kind of singing requires a lot of vocal strength and stamina, and I teach techniques to help you hit those big notes safely and with confidence.
An acoustic cover of a beautiful indie song by Patrick Watson. This style is perfect for learning how to convey emotion through simple, honest vocal delivery, something we focus on a lot in my beginner singing lessons.
Just me, my electric guitar, and a beautiful R&B tune. A big part of my teaching is song interpretation, and here I'm exploring the soulful phrasing and gentle runs that make a song feel personal. This is the kind of vibe we can explore in our online singing lessons.
About Singing Across Genres: Pop, Soul & Rock
I don't believe in rigid, cookie-cutter lessons. In our first session, we don’t just run scales; we pick a song you actually love and figure out why it moves you. We’ll look at the lyrics and find those tiny breath placements or tone shifts that turn a standard cover into your own version. It’s about building a real connection with the track so your performance feels honest, not rehearsed.
How We Find Your Sound
My approach is simple: we start with how you feel. Whether you’re into Billie Eilish’s breathy pop or a classic Aerosmith power ballad, we break it down. I’m not about teaching you to sing 'correctly' in a robotic way. I’m about helping you find what makes your voice yours.
What we cover:
- Song Interpretation: We take a song and dissect it. How can you phrase this line? Where should you whisper vs. where do you need power? This is where the magic happens.
- Genre Versatility: From Pop and Soul to Rock and Indie, we explore the vocal demands of each. You’ll learn how to modify your tone for the genre without losing your natural texture.
- Technique with a Twist: Yes, we do breathing exercises and pitch work, but we do them because they help you sing better, not just because they're on a syllabus. If you're aiming for Trinity exams, we cover that too, but we keep it fun.
My Setup
Everything is online, which means you can learn from your bedroom. It’s super chill—no judgment, just music. We’ll laugh when we mess up (because we will), we’ll learn, and we’ll get better. If you’re ready to actually enjoy the process, let’s get started. Cheggit!
