Designing Your Living and Dining Space

Your living and dining areas are where life unfolds. I focus on creating open, warm, and functional spaces that invite conversation and relaxation, mixing personal style with comfortable, everyday luxury.

About this collection

One of the simplest changes I make in almost every living room is pulling the sofa away from the wall. Even if you have a compact apartment, floating your seating in the center of the room creates a better flow, improves natural light distribution, and instantly makes the space feel more open and intentional.

When I design a shared living and dining area, the goal is always to keep the visual connection strong while giving each zone a distinct function. I see the living room as a space for conversation and the dining area as the anchor for gathering. To bridge them, I rely on material continuity, such as using similar wood tones or textile weights in both zones.

Lighting is the unsung hero here. In my projects, I layer light to shift the mood from a bright, productive morning space to a warm, soft evening sanctuary. I often use rattan pendants above the dining table to ground the area, while adding floor lamps or wall sconces in the seating zone to keep things cozy.

Practicality is just as important as aesthetics. In our Bengaluru apartments, space is often at a premium. I prefer using ottomans instead of heavy coffee tables; they prevent bruised shins, offer extra seating when friends drop by, and do not visually clutter the room. If you are worried about your space feeling too small, remember that your choice of rug can define the entire room. A properly sized rug that extends under the front legs of your sofa and accent chairs makes the room feel unified rather than scattered. I prefer natural fibers like wool or jute blends, which age beautifully and add that essential layer of warmth to a modern home.
