About Kizomba & Urbankiz: The Dance of Connection
In our studio, we strip back the complexity to focus on the 'Pisada'—the walk. Whether you are leading or following, we teach you to maintain a 50-50 connection where you push into the floor to get that energy back. It is not about fancy footwork initially; it is about that fundamental resistance and the 'Kizomba hug' that makes the dance feel natural rather than forced.
Kizomba is often called the dance of connection for a reason. Unlike other Latin styles that prioritize speed or intricate turn patterns, Kizomba and Urbankiz are about a grounded conversation between two people. When you join our batches at Club Florence or South Patio, we emphasize the 'flat foot' technique. This is not just a style choice; it ensures you stay grounded, maintaining a constant energy exchange with the floor.
We break down the three vital connections: the floor, the music, and your partner. If you lose one, you lose them all. In our sessions, you will learn to manage your frame, understand the role of resistance in leading and following, and find your comfort zone in the 'Kizomba hug'. We even run blindfolded exercises to help you stop relying on sight and start listening to your partner’s lead.
Whether you are joining as a total beginner or an improver looking to refine your Urbankiz flow, our Gurgaon studio provides a space to practice without judgment. We keep groups intimate, usually 15-30 students, allowing us to give individual feedback on your frame and posture. You do not need to bring a partner to join; our rotation system ensures everyone gets to dance. By the time you reach our performance or social batches, those fundamental basics—the walk, the pause, and the connection—become muscle memory, letting you dance freely at any social night.
