About The Path to Black Belt: Grading & Certification

A belt test is not just about getting a new color. It is a moment where you demonstrate everything—Kihon, Kata, and Kumite—under the watchful eye of our senior instructors. You prepare for months in our Chandigarh dojos at Sector 20 or 43, and the exam is where your discipline shows. Whether you are a kid aiming for a yellow belt or a teen working toward a black belt, the process is strict but supportive.

Our grading system is formal and follows the traditional Shotokan style. When you join, you start at the white belt. Each step forward requires mastering specific movements, building the stamina, and showing the mental focus that martial arts demands.

How the grading works

We hold official belt exams where students show their skills in three core areas:

  • Kihon (Basics): Punching, blocking, and kicking drills.
  • Kata (Forms): Sequences of moves to test your memory and flow.
  • Kumite (Sparring): Controlled combat to show you can use your skills safely and effectively.

Why it matters

Passing a test gives you a certificate. More importantly, it gives you confidence. We see students—from small children to adults—gain self-belief every time they tie a new belt. We host these events in organized venues like Garhwal Bhawan, inviting guests to celebrate the hard work our students put in. It is a family affair. Parents watch, brothers cheer for each other, and the energy in the hall is intense.

Next steps

We prepare you for the pressure. If you are training with us, you are already ready for the test. We do not rush you. We wait until you have the skills, and then we push you to perform. If you want to know when the next test is or how to start your journey to black belt, send a message. Let us see what you are capable of.
