Leash Manners and Loose Leash Walking Training in Delhi
Daily walks shouldn't be a battle. I help you build focus and calm, so your dog learns to walk with you instead of pulling ahead.
Teaching a Golden Retriever to walk on a loose leash is easy when you understand how to use their food drive as a reward. Here, the dog is focused on me, not pulling ahead.
This video shows a dog owner practicing loose-leash walking with his Golden Retriever. I empower owners with the techniques to maintain control and have a focused, calm dog even around other animals.
Training can also be a great workout. Here, a German Shepherd and I enjoy a run together, practicing a focused heel even at a faster pace.
About Real-World Skills: Leash Manners
Leash pulling isn't just about bad manners, it is about engagement. If your dog is pulling, it is because they have found something more interesting than you. I use food drive and positive reinforcement to change that. When we train, I teach your dog that checking in with you and walking by your side is the most rewarding option available. It is not about forcing them to heel, it is about making them want to stay close.
Many owners think walks are just for exercise, but for me, they are a training session. Whether you are dealing with a puppy learning their first steps or an adult dog pulling towards other animals, we tackle this by building focus. My approach to leash manners is simple: we start by teaching the dog that the leash is a communication tool, not a leash to be dragged around.
How We Fix the Pulling
- Engagement First: Before we focus on walking, I teach your dog to check in with you. If they aren't looking at you, they aren't listening.
- The Food Drive Method: I use treats and toys to keep the dog focused on me during the walk. This builds the habit of staying by your side.
- Scenario-Based Training: We don't just train in a room. We work in your neighborhood parks and streets where real-world distractions like cars, other dogs, and people exist. This is where the actual learning happens.
The Process
We typically do 12 sessions a month, 3 days a week. Each session is 30 minutes. Why so short? Because training requires high intensity. If a dog gets tired or bored, the engagement drops, and that is when bad habits return. We work on the foundation commands like 'Sit', 'Stay', and 'Heel' within the walk.
I am based in Ashok Vihar, but I travel across Delhi NCR to train. Whether you have a Golden Retriever or an Indie, the principles are the same. Training is not magic, it is consistent practice. You have to put in the effort between our sessions to see real results. Agar mehnat karoge, to results zaroor aayenge (If you put in the work, you will definitely get results).
