About Baby's First Toy: Rattles & Teethers
Every rattle I make is designed for peace of mind. I secure a gentle sound unit inside each toy, so it makes a soft chime rather than a harsh noise. Since babies explore with their mouths, I use only natural, untreated beech wood rings and 100% cotton yarn, ensuring everything is plastic-free and completely washable if it gets messy.
When I started crocheting, my grandkids were my first critics. That is why I obsess over the little things. Mass-produced toys often hide chemicals or loose plastic parts, but my rattles are stitched with soft cotton yarn and embroidered facial features—no plastic eyes or beads to worry about.
The Process Each piece takes me hours to complete, from the spiral crochet construction to sewing on the tiny animal heads. Whether it is a fox, elephant, or a sleeping penguin, I make sure the stuffing is high-grade hypoallergenic polyfill that holds its shape through every hug and wash.
