Signs of the Wild: Capturing Nature's Hidden Tracks
The jungle talks in subtle ways. From fresh paw prints in the dust to claw marks on tree trunks, these signs tell the stories that often happen when the camera is not directly on the animal.
A fresh tiger paw print in the sand. This single impression tells a story of power, presence, and the path of a predator. Every sign like this is a clue that helps us track animals on a safari.
Deep claw marks left by a bear on the bark of a tree. These marks are used for communication and to sharpen claws. They serve as a powerful, tangible sign of the animal's presence in the forest.
A butterfly in silhouette, its delicate shape outlined against a bright white sky. This minimalist and artistic approach focuses on the pure form and beauty of the insect.
About Signs of the Wild
Tracking is a skill I am constantly refining in the field. When I spot fresh pugmarks in the Tadoba dust or bear claw marks on a tree, I stop and observe. These impressions are as vital as the animals themselves, helping us read the forest's narrative without needing to intrude on the wildlife.
Tracking is the heartbeat of my photography. On a safari, especially in reserves like Tadoba or Pench, the animal is not always waiting in front of the lens. Often, it is the damp earth holding a fresh pugmark or the bark of a tree stripped by a sloth bear that tells you exactly who was here and where they are headed.
Using my Sony A7 IV with a 200-600mm lens, I focus on these details. It requires genuine patience. You have to learn the language of the forest to find these shots. Understanding where a leopard might mark its territory or where a bird creates its nest allows me to capture the essence of the habitat without disturbing the creatures.
These shots are a core part of my conservation approach. They document the reality of life in the wild. When I show you a track or a claw mark, I am showing you that the forest is active, alive, and thriving. My photography sessions are not just about the big cats; they are about understanding the whole ecosystem. Whether we are exploring the Navi Mumbai wetlands or trekking through a southern forest, my goal is to help you see the forest, not just the predator. Let's head out and learn to read the jungle together.

I do not just hunt for the perfect tiger shot; I hunt for the stories the forest leaves behind. Spending years in the wild has taught me that the silence and the footprints are just as exciting as the encounter itself.
