About Behind the Art: The Process
A deep, rich stain is not just about time; it is about how we lock the color in. Once we finish the application, we apply our signature medical-grade henna tape over the semi-dry paste. This creates a gentle heat that helps the color penetrate deeper, while also keeping your design safe from accidental smudges or dust while you relax.
Our process starts long before we arrive at your venue. We believe in total control over quality, which is why we hand-mix our own henna cones using triple-sifted Sojat powder and chemical-free essential oils. This ensures that the paste is smooth, consistent, and safe for all skin types.
When we begin an application, whether it is a minimalist design or an intricate bridal piece, we focus on precision. We use finer gauge tips for the detailed motifs and storytelling elements, ensuring every line is sharp and clean.
For our bridal clients, we prioritize the longevity of the design. Our Henna Taping technique is a crucial step that sets our work apart. By covering the design once it is semi-dry, we prevent it from cracking and flaking off too early. This process also helps the lawsone pigment (the active dye component) release effectively, resulting in that dark maroon stain you want for your wedding photos.
After we remove the tape and scrape off the dried paste, we provide a lemon-sugar sealant. This helps maintain the stain's intensity as it oxidizes over the next 24 to 48 hours. We guide you through the entire aftercare process, including how to avoid water contact initially, so your mehndi looks its best for the main event.
