A man stands before the funeral pyres at Manikarnika Ghat. I wanted to capture this quiet moment of observation amidst the constant flames, showing the human connection to the powerful rituals of life and death in Varanasi.
Morning light filters through the sacred Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, illuminating a gathering of monks. This image captures the serene, disciplined energy I seek to document, where light and devotion create a moment of pure peace.
A candid portrait of a participant during a festival procession in the streets of Kashi. My goal is to get close and capture the raw emotion and character in people's faces, showing their faith without filters or posing.
A Bharatnatyam dancer performs with a peacock against the backdrop of an old tomb in Delhi. This shot demonstrates my work in documenting cultural performances, blending the artist's grace with the beauty of the natural and historical environment.
A young monk is completely absorbed in reading his scriptures at the Mahabodhi Temple. I focus on these candid moments of devotion to tell a story of dedication and learning that begins at a very young age in Bodhgaya.
This black and white photograph shows the layers of life at Manikarnika Ghat. A cow stands overlooking the cremation rituals by the Ganga, a typical yet profound scene that speaks to the coexistence of the sacred, the mundane, and the eternal in Varanasi.
A close-up of countless butter lamps lit by pilgrims at the Mahabodhi Temple. I used a shallow depth of field to create this abstract image of light and prayer, representing the collective faith and hope of the devotees.

About Documentary & Travel Photography

What Drives My Lens

I use my camera to document real life as I see it - raw, sometimes spiritual, always honest. It's not just about clicking photos for me, it's about chasing stories that feel true.

Where I Find Stories

  • Varanasi pulls me in every time. The ghats, especially Manikarnika, have their own energy - fire, grief, rituals, and acceptance. Om Namah Shivay. I try to capture the smoke, the faces, the Aghori sadhus, all as they are, without drama.
  • Bodhgaya is the opposite - calm and disciplined. I look for peace in the chanting monks, the old temple light, and the focus of pilgrims. That stillness says a lot.
  • On the streets, I follow the chaos - dancers, old forts, alleyways. I want my work to feel like visual storytelling of culture, not just travel snapshots.

How I Shoot

  • I let the mood guide me. Sometimes I go gritty black and white for raw emotion, sometimes full colour for festival energy.
  • Obsessed with natural light - whether it's harsh, soft, or flickering, it shapes my photos.
  • I don't pose people. I blend in, catch candid street portraits, and try to feel what’s happening around me.
  • Not just stills - I also do documentary travel short films for a deeper story.

What I Offer

If you want authentic, immersive visuals - for a project, a publication, or your own journey - I’m open for collaborations across India.

My Story

I’m Madhav Ritik. Delhi College of Photography taught me the technical stuff, but real inspiration hits me in places like Kashi, Manikarnika Ghat, or Bodh Gaya. Sometimes I’m shooting glossy plates for commercial food photography, other days I’m lost in raw street photography, chanting 'Om Namah Shivay' as I frame life and death. My work swings between studio lights and spiritual India photo series. It’s all about the story, yaar.
