About Whimsical Storage Baskets
I crochet these baskets with thick, high-grade cotton to ensure they stand upright on their own, whether they are filled with kids' toys or a favourite book. If you are using one to hold a houseplant, just remember to place a small plastic tray inside the base to protect the yarn from water.
When I started Knotty n Krafty Studio, I wanted to move away from plastic storage bins that hide away in closets. Instead, I imagined pieces that you would want to keep on your coffee table or nightstand. My baskets, like the Owlie or the Frida-inspired designs, are created with a dense crochet technique using high-grade cotton or acrylic blends. This tight stitch work is what gives them their structural integrity, so they do not slouch or collapse when filled with heavy items like books or toys.
Each piece is a little bit of my heart. The Owlie baskets, with their dangling yarn tassels and detailed appliqué eyes, are favourites for nursery organization, helping parents keep small toys and diapers within reach but neatly tucked away. For those looking to add a pop of colour to their living room, the Frida baskets featuring floral crowns and earrings bring a vibrant, artistic touch to any shelf or table.
Because these are handmade, I focus heavily on utility alongside aesthetics. A popular way to use these is as planter covers for indoor pots. If you choose to use your basket this way, please ensure you use a waterproof saucer inside the base to keep your plant healthy and your yarn clean. Whether you need a small cover for a succulent or a large bin for a nursery, these baskets are designed to be practical art that stays beautiful for years.
