Behind the Scenes of My Handmade Macrame Process
Ever wonder what goes into your custom macrame piece? Step into my workspace, where eco-friendly cords and a bit of messy creativity turn into handmade treasures for your home.
I only had photos of these custom macrame slippers, so I made a reel with them! Sometimes you have to get creative with content creation.
A little snippet of my macrame small business. This journey has given me so much, and I'm grateful for everyone who has supported me.
Orders like these are so special! A bulk buyer wanted everything I had in stock, and I was so happy to send out this collection of my work.
Do my hands match my art? They're not manicured, but they are the hands that create every piece with love and passion.
Are you a macrame beginner who struggles with single-strand cords? This simple tip of twisting the cord as you work will help your knots look even and prevent unraveling.
About this collection
When I work with single-strand cotton cords, they tend to unravel, so I have learned to keep twisting the cord as I knot. It is a small, fiddly detail, but it is exactly what keeps your coasters flat and your wall hangings looking clean. Whether I am knotting a bulk order of keychains or a custom 7-foot curtain, that constant tension is what makes the finished piece hold its shape.
My workspace is rarely clean; it is usually covered in cotton cords, scraps, and half-finished projects. That is the reality of creating something by hand. When you order a custom piece, you are not just getting an object; you are getting the hours I spent ensuring the knots are tight and the fringe is combed perfectly.
Bulk orders are my bread and butter, but they come with challenges. I have spent weeks in a room filled with cords, meticulously hand-knotting 250 plus keychains for wedding favors. It is a lot of work, but seeing those photos later—when they are part of a haldi ceremony or a baby shower—makes every cut and knot worth it.
What happens when you place an order?
Once you reach out, we chat about the vibe you are going for. Whether it is a specific color palette for a wedding or a quirky design for a nursery, I source the cotton cord, plan the pattern, and start knotting. If it is a large piece like a wall hanging, I mount it on natural wood or driftwood to get that perfect, rustic finish.
Why cotton?
I exclusively use 100% cotton cords because they are soft, durable, and eco-friendly. I do not use plastic-based materials. Yes, it takes longer to process, but it feels better in your hands and looks more natural in your home. If you have a design idea or a bulk requirement for an event in Bengaluru, message me. Deepika
Hi, I am Deepika. My hands are not manicured; they are usually rough, cord-burned, and covered in remnants of my latest project. I have spent the last three years turning simple cotton rope into everything from tiny earrings to massive curtains, and I love sharing the messy, rewarding reality of the process with you.
