Training in the Real World

Most training happens in a sterile classroom, but life doesn't. I take your dog out to real Tulsa spots—gyms, cafes, and parks—to turn commands into habits that stick.

Want your dog to be able to chill like this on a restaurant patio or at a soccer game? We can help you get there. This is what real-world training is all about.

These two Border Collies are used to rounding up cattle, but we took them on a field trip to the Gathering Place to work on their public obedience. Great obedience is useful for any job.

This is Crew, the future gym dog. We're getting him used to all the loud noises and strange movements of a gym so he can be a calm and happy companion for everyone.

Maude, a recent graduate, looking beautiful and calm inside a boutique. We practice in all sorts of indoor public spaces to ensure your dog is well-mannered everywhere.

Miss Margo and her friend Floki practicing their 'place' command in a cool vintage shop. This is a perfect example of real-world training in a distracting environment.

We're starting our pack walks back up. This is a great way to practice your dog's skills in a real-world setting with the distraction of other dogs and people.

About this collection

Don't expect your dog to listen at a crowded park if they haven't mastered the basics in your living room. We bridge that gap by teaching you how to maintain focus when distractions are high, whether we're training in a busy gym or grabbing coffee downtown. It is about learning to communicate so your dog stays calm no matter what is happening around them.

Training isn't just about nailing a 'sit' command in your kitchen; it is about proofing those behaviors where they actually matter. I see too many owners frustrated because their dog listens at home but turns into a different animal the second they hit the sidewalk or a cafe patio. My goal is to change that.

The Reality of Public Obedience

When we take training into the real world, we are dealing with chaos. Cars, kids playing, loud noises at the gym, or other dogs walking by—these are massive distractions. If your dog doesn't have a solid foundation of obedience, they are going to struggle in these environments. That is why we focus on 'proofing' commands. We take the skills your dog learned at home and apply them to high-traffic areas across Tulsa.

How We Make It Work

We start with the basics to ensure your dog is rock solid on leash walking, the 'place' command, and recall. Once those are reliable, we move out. We hit spots like the Gathering Place, local boutiques, and coffee shops. The idea is to teach you how to handle your dog when things get exciting so you can actually enjoy taking them places. Whether it is leash reactivity or just general excitement that needs curbing, we work on it in the environments where the behavior actually happens, not in a controlled vacuum.

Why This Approach Stick

My training philosophy is simple: we are training the human to handle the dog. You will learn to read your dog's body language, predict when they are about to lose focus, and step in before they do. It is messy, it takes patience, and it is rarely a straight line of progress, but it is the only way to get a dog that is truly steady and confident in public.

I’m a firm believer that training is about more than just obedience; it's about the bond you share with your pup. My world revolves around dogs, and my goal is to help you navigate the messy, hilarious, and sometimes frustrating reality of life with a dog so you can actually enjoy their company.
