Kerala Mural Paintings: My Artistic Foundation

Before my jewellery collections, there was the canvas. This is where I pour my heart into traditional Kerala mural art, exploring divine stories through fine brushwork and rich colour theory.

I am so happy to share my completed 'Parvati Alankaram' Kerala mural, a 3x2 feet canvas that took many hours of dedicated work. This piece, depicting Princess Parvati preparing for her wedding, showcases the traditional art form that is the foundation of all my creative work.

About My Foundation: The Art of Murals

Every mural I paint begins with a sketch and a lot of patience. When I work on a large piece like the 3x2 feet 'Parvati Alankaram,' I am not just covering a surface; I am following a discipline of colour and line work that has kept me grounded for 12 years. It is a slow, deliberate process, often involving layers of traditional pigments to capture the details of figures like Shiva and Parvati, which later inspires the precision I bring to my smaller jewellery pieces.

My journey with the brush started long before I began painting on pendants. Kerala mural painting is a rigorous, deeply satisfying art form that demands respect for traditional aesthetics. It teaches me about the flow of a line and the balance of colours—things that I try to channel into everything I create, whether it is a small desk-sized Ganesha or a large, vibrant canvas.

The Process

Each canvas begins with an idea, often inspired by Vellikayamai (Friday’s energy) or stories of divine figures. I spend time researching the posture, the attire, and the traditional elements like the brass lamps or annapakshis (mythical birds) that surround the main deity. Painting a mural is a practice of devotion for me. It is not something I rush; each layer of acrylic colour is applied to ensure the final piece feels alive.

Custom Commissions

If you have a story you want to tell on canvas, I would love to hear it. Whether it is a wedding gift for a loved one, a mural for a quiet corner in your home, or a piece that marks a new beginning, I work closely with you to understand the mood and meaning you want to capture.

Painting is my way of sharing blessings. When I finish a piece like 'Parvati Alankaram' and see all the elements—the silks, the flowers, and the jewellery—come together, it is a reminder of why I started Kimaya Murals 12 years ago. If you are looking for a painting that feels handmade and honest, let's talk.

I am Gowri, and these murals are where my artistic journey truly began. Painting these large-scale divine stories is my meditation, and it has taught me the patience and attention to detail that I pour into every smaller piece I create today.
