About First Birthday & Cake Smash
My sessions follow a specific flow: we start with clean, classic portraits before the main event begins. Once the cake comes out, I capture the spontaneous reactions as things get messy, and we always finish with a warm water bubble bath segment, which is usually where the genuine laughter happens.
Making the First Birthday Special
I believe that a first birthday photoshoot should be about more than just a posed picture. It is about letting your little one explore. Whether we are planning a 'Little Chef' setup with miniature kitchen props or a dreamy 'Unicorn Fantasy' theme, my goal is to create an environment where your child feels comfortable enough to be themselves.
The Session Flow
Every cake smash session lasts between 90 minutes to 2 hours. We do not rush. We start with the 'clean' portraits—this is when your baby is fresh and curious, making it the perfect time to capture those wide-eyed expressions. Once the cake arrives, I step back and let the magic happen. Some babies dive straight in, others are hesitant, and all of these reactions are precious.
Why a Bubble Bath?
After the mess of the cake smash, I always include a warm bubble bath segment. Not only does this help with the cleanup, but it also provides a completely different set of joyful photos. Seeing a baby splash in a tub is often the highlight of the shoot for parents.
Practical Details for Parents
- The Cake: While I handle the set design, props, and costumes, I recommend that parents arrange the cake. This ensures it is a flavor and texture your child is already familiar with.
- Comfort: These sessions can be unpredictable. If your child needs a break or a cuddle, we take one. There is no ticking clock on happiness.
- Deliverables: You will receive 15 to 20 artistically edited, high-resolution images, ready to print or share with family.
