This is the first glimpse into the world of handmade analog portraits. A curated selection of my most impactful work, showcasing the unique beauty of historical photographic processes and the soulful, one-of-a-kind keepsakes we can create together.
Timeless Portraits: The Wet Plate Experience
Each portrait is a one-of-a-kind artifact, created using the 1850s wet plate collodion process on a 4x5 inch glass or metal plate. The session is a slow, collaborative experience where you see your image emerge, complete with unique marks from the chemicals, making it a true keepsake.
The Alchemist's Studio: How Your Portrait is Made
Step into my studio and see the magic of analog photography unfold. From mixing chemicals and preparing plates by hand to working with large format vintage cameras and developing in the darkroom, this is a hands-on, tangible process from start to finish.
Beyond Silver: Cyanotypes, Albumen & Custom Prints
I also explore other historic photographic processes for special commissions. This includes deep blue Cyanotypes made with sunlight, and rich, detailed Albumen prints created using egg whites, each offering a distinct texture and mood for your custom artwork.
The Analog Journey: The Magic of Film
Beyond plate photography, I also work with traditional black and white film. This collection captures the classic grain and timeless feel of film, from shooting on the streets to developing the negatives by hand in the darkroom.
Our Community: Workshops & Exhibitions
Kanike is more than a studio; it's a community hub for learning and sharing. We host hands-on workshops on alternative processes and regularly showcase the work of resident artists and collaborators in our gallery space.
