The Bharat Trilogy: My Core Thesis
These books are my attempt to dismantle the colonial frameworks that shape our current identity. It is time to look at Bharat not as a country defined by 1947, but as a living, continuous civilisation.
A reader's perspective on 'India that is Bharat'. The book is intended to provide a counter-narrative to the prevailing colonial worldview by distinguishing between the political act of colonialism and the enduring mental framework of coloniality.
The Hindi translation, 'India Arthath Bharat', featured on the Dainik Jagran bestseller list. Making this work accessible in regional languages is crucial to broadening the reach of the decolonial project.
Both volumes of the Bharat series available for purchase. The first book lays the groundwork by exploring coloniality's influence on our Constitution, while the second delves into the civilisational journey leading to Partition.
The Telugu edition, 'ఇండియా అనే భారత్'. It is important that these ideas are discussed and debated in every part of Bharat, in the language of the people.
The Hindi edition, 'इंडिया अर्थात भारत'. The success of the translated versions indicates a widespread hunger for a narrative rooted in our own civilisational context.
The original English hardcover edition of 'India that is Bharat'. This book traces the influence of European colonial consciousness on the Indic civilisation from 1492 through the Government of India Act of 1919.
A display of 'India, Bharat and Pakistan' alongside the first volume. The second book challenges the simplistic political explanation for the Two-Nation theory, arguing for its deeper religious and historical roots.
My books on the Indian Writing chart at the Kolkata International Airport. Their visibility in high-traffic public spaces helps introduce these critical themes to a wider audience.
My books displayed at a WH Smith store. The consistent demand for these works reflects a growing societal interest in understanding our history from a non-colonised perspective.
A snapshot from a bookstore in IGI Airport, New Delhi. It is heartening to see that even years after their release, both books continue to hold their ground and attract new readers.
About The Bharat Trilogy: My Core Thesis
A quick heads-up before you decide to purchase: ensure you are buying the official Bloomsbury hardcovers. There are many paperback copies floating online that are unauthorised counterfeits. If you see an English paperback, it is almost certainly a fake. Stick to reputable bookstores or prime sellers to get the genuine, reference-heavy editions that I spent years writing.
The Bharat Trilogy represents my attempt to decolonise the Indian mind. The first volume, 'India that is Bharat', investigates how European colonial consciousness influenced our Constitution from 1492 to 1924. It is not just about political history; it is about how the intellectual framework we use today was inherited from our colonisers.
The second volume, 'India, Bharat and Pakistan', moves beyond the simplistic Two-Nation theory. I trace the religious and historical currents that led to the subcontinent's partition, focusing on the Khilafat movement and the deep-seated grievances that were manipulated. These are not light reads. They require patience, focus, and a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths about how our modern identity was constructed.
Why do I write this? Because we are currently living in a state of transgenerational Stockholm Syndrome. We accept Western academic categories like 'caste' or 'tribe' without questioning how they were imposed to divide us. By returning to primary sources and archival data, I offer a perspective that challenges the mainstream narrative taught in most schools.
Whether you engage with these through the English hardcovers, or the officially authorised Hindi and Telugu translations, the objective remains the same: to foster a Dharmic consciousness. This project is about reclamation. We cannot begin to fix the future if we do not understand the systemic rot of the past. If you are serious about understanding Bharat as a living civilisation, these books are the starting point.
