From Yarn to Joy: My Crochet Process
Ever wonder how a simple ball of yarn becomes a little friend? Here is a peek into how I turn soft cotton threads into finished amigurumi pieces.
This video shows the process of creating the little acorn character. I start with the color palette of brown and lime green yarn, and then through the magic of crochet, it becomes a happy little amigurumi friend.
About From Yarn to Joy
When I start a new piece, I specifically pick 100% cotton or mercerized cotton yarn because it keeps the stitch definition crisp and prevents that fuzzy pilling over time. I want your keychain or amigurumi to look just as cute months from now as it does the day I mail it to you, so I make sure every loop is tight and consistent.
Every piece starts as a sketch or a simple idea. Whether it is a chubby bird or a textured acorn, the first step is choosing the right color palette. I mostly use 100% cotton yarn because it is soft, breathable, and holds up well against daily wear on your bag or keys.
Once the yarn is chosen, I start the magic. I use intermediate crochet stitches, like bobbles or popcorn stitches, to give my characters texture and personality. For amigurumi projects, the construction is key. I use high-grade, hypoallergenic polyester fiber fill to make sure my creations stay chubby and huggable without being too heavy.
Details matter, especially with faces. I use 6mm to 8mm safety eyes that are secured with washers from the inside, so they are safe and permanent. After the body is done, I spend time on the final touches, like hand-embroidering blush marks or little smiles with embroidery floss. Everything I make in my Delhi studio gets a final inspection, a little dusting, and is packed in a protective sleeve with a handwritten note from me before it heads your way.
