Removable No-Sew Banana Crochet Pattern
I created this pattern because I wanted a banana that actually peels. It is a quick, fun, and completely no-sew project perfect for using up your leftover velvet yarn.
This is my removable no-sew banana in action. I wanted to create a fun, interactive toy, so I designed the pattern where the banana can be taken out of its peel.
The official pattern card for my no-sew removable banana. I was so excited to turn my free-handed idea into a pattern for the community.
These reference pictures show how the finished banana looks. On the left, you can see the fruit partway out of the peel, and on the right, you see the bottom of the peel.
This is the pattern for the inside part of the banana. It's a simple amigurumi shape made with white yarn that you stuff to make it firm.
Here’s the first part of the instructions for the banana peel. This section guides you through creating the base and starting the first of the three hanging peels.
This slide continues the pattern for the peel, explaining how to finish all three sections. I also included a great tip from a fellow crocheter on how to minimize weaving in the ends.
Here are the materials and abbreviations for the banana pattern. It’s a quick project that only needs a few basic supplies like yarn, a hook, and some poly-fill for stuffing.
About Free Pattern: Removable No-Sew Banana
This project is super quick, usually taking about 30 minutes, so it is perfect for a relaxing weekend session. Because it is a no-sew design, you do not have to worry about assembly frustration. Everything is joined as you go, and the banana fruit pops right out of the peel.
Finding a banana pattern with three distinct, sturdy peels was tricky, so I ended up winging this one freehand. I am so happy with how it turned out. It is honestly the cutest little thing to have on your desk.
Why you will love this project
- Truly No-Sew: You create the tentacles directly on the body as you go, saving you from the tedious sewing at the end.
- Interactive: The banana fruit is designed to be removable, so it pops right out of the peel.
- Beginner-Friendly: Even with the removable feature, the stitch logic is straightforward. It is a great way to practice your single crochets and increases.
A quick tip for the best finish
A fellow crocheter @crochethics shared a brilliant tip that I now swear by. Slip stitch along the side of each peel. It really helps keep the edges clean and minimizes any extra weaving of ends.
What you will need
- Thin velvet or chenille yarn (4.5mm to 6mm)
- Matching crochet hook
- Poly-fill for stuffing
If you get stuck on the bobble stitches or the peel transitions, feel free to drop me a message. I love seeing what y'all create, so please tag me when you finish yours!
