A look at my festive collection of stone Uralis, or decorative bowls. Some replicate the beautiful carvings of Hoysala temples, and they can be displayed bare or filled with water and flowers for a traditional touch.

A pair of small elephants carved into a natural rock niche. Each stone is carefully selected, and the carving reveals just a portion of the story, retaining the rustic originality of the rock.

About this collection

The beauty of these pieces lies in the contrast between the rough, natural rock exterior and the delicate, precise detail of the deity or mythical being carved within. Because each stone is hand-selected and unique, no two carvings are identical, meaning the piece you bring home is the only one of its kind.

We work with master stone carvers and Shilpakala students to reveal figures hidden inside natural granite and sandstone. Instead of shaping the entire rock, we preserve the raw, weathered exterior, chiseling a small niche to hold the idol or figure. This method draws inspiration from ancient South Indian temple architecture, where deities were often carved directly into the cliff faces or temple walls.

Whether you are looking for a small Ganesha figure for a festive diya setup, a Yali or Naga Deva for your garden, or even our eccentric 'Goobey' owl carvings for your bookshelf, each piece tells a different story. These sculptures are solid, durable, and weather well in outdoor settings, though they look just as peaceful on an indoor mantel.

When you visit our Anjanapura warehouse, you can see how the light hits the texture of the stone differently throughout the day. We recommend finding a spot with natural morning or evening light to really bring out the depth of the carving. If you have a specific space in mind—like a garden corner or a bookshelf nook—let us know, and we can help you find a shape that fits the scale of your space.
