Seasonal Skincare and Lifestyle Habits
Your skin needs change with the seasons and your daily habits. Learn the science behind protecting your skin barrier from summer heat, winter dryness, and post-workout breakouts.
As the weather heats up, your skincare routine needs to adapt. In this video, I share my essential tips for summer, including washing your face regularly, patting sweat instead of rubbing, staying hydrated, and of course, being diligent with a lightweight, non-sticky sunscreen.
Winter can be harsh on your skin, leaving it dry and dehydrated. My top four tips for winter care are: avoid very hot showers, moisturize on damp skin, use a nourishing lip balm constantly, and drink plenty of water to hydrate from the inside out.
Here are my essential pre-Holi skincare tips to protect your skin from harsh colors. The key is to create a protective barrier. I recommend hydrating your skin, applying a thick moisturizer, using sunscreen, and massaging oil into your skin and hair before you play.
Hitting the gym is great for your health, but sweat and bacteria can lead to breakouts. My dermatologist-approved post-workout routine includes cleansing your face immediately with lukewarm water, rehydrating with a lightweight moisturizer, and changing out of sweaty clothes to avoid body acne.
How does your sleep affect your skin? A good night's sleep is when your skin enters repair mode, removing toxins and creating new cells. Lack of sleep can lead to a compromised skin barrier, dryness, and dark circles. Prioritizing sleep is prioritizing your skin.
Your skin deserves a break too. On weekends, I recommend giving your skin time to rejuvenate. This means staying makeup-free, cleansing well, using a hydrating mask, and prioritizing rest. Let your skin breathe and recover from the busy week.
Is your skincare product not working for you? There are clear signs to look for, such as excessive dryness, developing a rash or redness, constant irritation, or your skin becoming more oily. If you notice these signs, it's time to stop the product and see your dermatologist.
About this collection
Forget buying expensive, trending all-season miracle creams. Your skincare needs to rotate, because what works in Bengaluru’s humid summers will often fail you during dry winters. I focus on modifying your routine based on local climate and your specific lifestyle, like post-gym hygiene or festival prep, rather than sticking to one static product lineup year-round.
Adapting to the Seasons
Your skin is not static. In the summer, your main concerns are oil regulation, sweat management, and UV protection. You need non-comedogenic, lightweight formulations that won't clog pores when humidity spikes. Conversely, winter calls for a shift toward hydration and barrier repair. Avoiding hot showers and moisturizing on damp skin is not just a tip, it is a medical necessity to prevent dermatitis and eczema.
Lifestyle and Skin Health
Your skincare routine is only as effective as your lifestyle choices.
- Post-Workout Hygiene: Sweat and bacteria are leading causes of body acne. Cleansing immediately after the gym with lukewarm water and changing out of sweaty gear isn't optional for clear skin.
- Sleep and Repair: Sleep is when your skin enters repair mode. A lack of rest compromises your skin barrier, leading to dryness and dark circles that no serum can fully fix.
- The Barrier Approach: Whether it is Holi preparations or managing heat rash, the goal is always to protect your skin barrier. I advise against heavy home DIYs or harsh scrubs during sensitive periods.
Why Routine Audits Matter
