Hair Transplant on Scar Tissue and Burn Injuries
We use specialized FUE techniques to restore hair density on burn scars and injury marks, focusing on blending grafts naturally with your existing hair flow.
Hair growth is possible even on scar tissue. This patient had a significant burn scar, and we performed a hair transplant to cover it. The video shows the successful growth just four months later.
About Specialized Procedure: Hair Transplant on Scars
When dealing with scar tissue, the biggest challenge is not the transplant itself, but the blood supply underneath. If the scar tissue is too dense or damaged, the transplanted hair follicles may struggle to survive. This is why we always perform a vascularity evaluation before we agree to proceed with any graft implantation.
Why Scar Tissue is Different
Unlike healthy scalp skin, scar tissue from burns or accidents often has a compromised blood supply and a different texture. This makes standard hair transplant techniques risky if not adjusted. We treat this as a reconstructive challenge rather than a cosmetic one. Before we touch a single follicle, we assess the area to see if it can support new hair growth.
Our Surgical Approach
We utilize ultra-fine FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) punches, typically 0.7mm to 0.8mm, to minimize trauma to the compromised skin. The goal is to place grafts at the correct angle to mimic natural hair flow, which is often distorted in scarred areas.
For patients with significant damage, we often suggest a test patch. We implant a small number of grafts first to observe how they survive and grow. This helps us see if the skin quality is sufficient for a full session without wasting your time or money.
Setting Realistic Expectations
We are always upfront about the limitations. A hair transplant can camouflage a scar, but it does not erase it. The texture of the skin remains a scar, and the hair density may not be identical to your healthy scalp. Our objective is to reduce the visual impact of the mark so it blends in with the surrounding hair, making it less noticeable in daily life. Recovery usually follows a standard protocol, but we closely monitor the site for a few extra days to ensure the grafts take hold.
