My Skincare Philosophy & Daily Advice
Forget the endless social media hacks. My approach is simple: clean, protect, and nourish. Let’s build a routine that actually works for your skin, not against it.
For professionals with a busy corporate life, a consistent skincare routine is key. I recommend a morning routine of a gentle cleanser, Vitamin C serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. At night, remove makeup, cleanse again, and apply a moisturizer and a prescribed night cream with peptides or retinol.
There are several green flags that indicate you are on the right track with your skincare. These include moisturizing daily, staying hydrated, applying SPF every day, washing your pillowcase regularly, disinfecting your phone screen, and always removing makeup before bed. These simple habits make a huge difference.
Your holiday checklist should always include sunscreen. When you travel, your skin is exposed to intense and varied environmental conditions that increase UV damage. Consistent sun protection prevents tanning, pigmentation, and premature aging, ensuring you bring back only good memories from your vacation.
Applying enough sunscreen is crucial for proper protection. The two-finger rule is a good guide, but for liquid sunscreens, it can be tricky. I recommend using an amount equivalent to a five-rupee coin for your face and neck to ensure you get the full SPF coverage stated on the bottle.
The correct way to measure sunscreen is the two-finger rule, which amounts to the size of a five-rupee coin. This quantity is necessary to provide your skin with adequate protection from harmful UV rays. Applying any less will not give you the protection you need.
It is extremely important to wear water-resistant sunscreen when swimming. Water reflects sunlight, intensifying your UV exposure and leading to sunburns even when you are in the pool. A good sunscreen will protect you from both the sun and the chemicals like chlorine in the water.
Drinking plenty of water is great for your internal health, but it is not enough to keep your skin hydrated. External hydration is also essential. A simple moisturizer suited for your skin type helps repair the skin barrier and seal in moisture, which is crucial for managing issues like dryness, acne, and pigmentation.
A simple night skincare routine is often the most effective. Your skin repairs itself at night, and a good moisturizer is essential to support this process by preventing water loss. Adding peptides can further help by stimulating collagen production and improving skin firmness and texture over time.
Flaky winter skin is caused by cold weather and low humidity stripping your skin's natural moisture barrier. The key is to switch to a gentle cleanser and use a richer moisturizer with ceramides to lock in hydration. If flaking persists, a dermatologist can recommend in-clinic treatments for relief.
In winter, dry skin is more prone to allergies. Harshly removing makeup or shaving can cause rashes and irritation. The best prevention is to keep your skin well-hydrated with a good moisturizer and handle it very gently, especially before and after any skin treatments.
About My Skincare Philosophy & Daily Advice
Stop guessing how much sunscreen to apply. The common 'two-finger rule' often fails with liquid formulas, leaving you unprotected without you realizing it. For proper face and neck coverage, pour an amount equal to a ₹5 coin. It ensures you actually get the full SPF protection stated on the bottle. A small change in technique makes a big difference.
The Less is More Mantra
Scrolling through Instagram often leads to over-complicating things. My philosophy is grounded in basics: a good cleanser, a moisturizer, and a reliable sunscreen. If you get these three right, you are already ahead of 90 percent of the population. Everything else is secondary to maintaining a healthy skin barrier.
Why Your Routine Should Be Science-Backed
Glowing skin is not about trends or trying to change your skin color. Aapke skin ke color mein aap kitne fresh dikhte ho (how fresh you look in your own skin color), that is what we aim for.
- Cleansing: You need to remove impurities without stripping your skin. Harsh soaps are the enemy of your natural barrier.
- Hydration: Drinking water is good for your health, but it is not enough to keep skin hydrated. You must apply a moisturizer suited to your skin type to seal in moisture, especially if you have dry, flaky, or acne-prone skin.
- Protection: Sunscreen is non-negotiable. Whether you are in the city, at the beach, or skiing in the hills, UV rays are present. If you do not apply enough, you are essentially skipping your daily insurance against pigmentation and premature aging.
Moving Beyond the Basics
When you are ready to address specific concerns like pigmentation, acne, or signs of aging, that is when we bring in actives like Vitamin C or Retinol. However, these are powerful tools. Retinol, for instance, requires a guided approach—whether we start it as short-contact therapy or alternate-day usage depends entirely on your skin's tolerance.
Do not become a guinea pig for online trends. If your routine feels overwhelming or you are not seeing the results you want, it is time for a proper assessment at my Bandra clinic. Let us make a plan that works for your specific skin needs.
