Modern and Festive Groom Styling and Draping
Whether you are going for a classic reception look or a vibrant outfit for Onam, I help grooms blend tradition with modern style. Let us get your look photo-ready and secure.
This look is all about modern elegance. The groom wears a striking pink silk kurta with a matching veshti and a neatly pinned angavastram, a perfect outfit for a wedding reception or engagement.
A demonstration of modern groom styling. I'm adjusting the angavastram over an embroidered kurta, creating a sharp, fashionable look that still honors the traditional veshti.
For a contemporary Onam or festival look, a printed shirt with a mundu is a great choice. My draping ensures the mundu has clean lines that complement the modern shirt.
A perfect example of a festive family look for Onam. The father's simple mundu, draped by me, pairs beautifully with a modern lavender kurta, creating a stylish yet comfortable outfit.

About Modern & Festive Looks
Most people think a mundu is just about wrapping it around the waist, but the secret is in the anchor pleats. I use a specific pinning method that prevents the veshti from slipping or looking bulky around your hip area. This keeps your fabric secure even if you are dancing or moving through your venue, so you stay looking sharp without having to adjust your pleats every five minutes.
Precision Draping for Every Occasion
Traditional wear is incredibly versatile, but the difference between a sloppy look and a sharp one is in the structure. My work for modern and festive events focuses on making traditional garments like the Kerala mundu or silk veshti feel like a contemporary outfit. Whether you are pairing a classic kasavu mundu with a printed shirt for a festival like Onam, or styling a heavy silk veshti for your engagement, I manage the proportions to ensure the drape complements your height and frame.
The Technical Approach
- Fabric Handling: Whether you are wearing rigid Zari border silks or lightweight cotton, I use specific folding techniques to keep the fabric crisp. This ensures the material doesn't lose its shape during long ceremonies.
- Angavastram Styling: For grooms, the angavastram is often an afterthought, but I treat it as a statement piece. I pleat and secure it so it sits perfectly over your kurta, preventing it from sliding off during rituals.
- Silhouette Management: I use structural techniques involving knotting and discreet pinning to ensure your garment looks fitted rather than bulky. This is especially important for fusion looks where a modern shirt is paired with a traditional bottom.
I travel to your hotel, home, or resort, working alongside your makeup artist and photographer. My goal is to ensure that when you look in the mirror, the outfit is not just worn, but styled. If you have a specific vision for your look, let me know, and we will make it happen.
