Taming Frizz and Preventing Hair Damage
Frizz isn't just about the weather. It is often about how you wash and dry your hair. Let’s swap out the myths for science-backed habits that actually protect your hair cuticle.
Frizzy hair can be frustrating, but the solution isn't complicated. I share some of my go-to frizzy hair hacks that are simple and effective. Learn why you should use lukewarm water, a wide-toothed comb, and silicone-based serums to protect your hair strands and achieve a smoother look.
About Taming Frizz & Preventing Hair Damage
Stop using harsh bath towels to rub your hair dry. The friction from thick, looped towels creates static and roughens the hair cuticle, which is a primary culprit for frizz. Switch to an old, soft cotton T-shirt instead. It is much gentler and absorbs water without damaging your strands or causing unnecessary tangles.
Hair damage occurs when the cuticle layer is raised or broken. Think of it like shingles on a roof; when they are flat, your hair is smooth and reflects light. When they are lifted, you get that dry, unmanageable texture we call frizz.
My Protocol for Healthy Hair
- Temperature Matters: Avoid hot water. It strips natural oils and forces the cuticle to open up. Lukewarm water is your baseline for all hair washes.
- Combing Habits: Only use a wide-toothed comb, especially when hair is wet. Wet hair is in its most fragile state, and force-combing causes 'long breakage' along the hair shaft.
- Product Selection: Stop relying on marketing labels. Look for shampoos containing hydrolyzed proteins or silicones. These ingredients temporarily fill the microscopic gaps in your hair strands, smoothing the texture.
- Serum Placement: Apply silicone-based serums on damp hair. This creates a protective barrier against environmental friction and styling damage.
Why a Professional Consultation
Everyone’s hair is different. If you have an oily scalp, you need a completely different routine than someone with dry, curly hair. A quick visual scalp exam in the clinic can rule out inflammation, dandruff, or nutritional deficiencies that topical hacks simply cannot fix. If you are struggling with persistent damage, let’s build a routine that stops the cycle, rather than just masking the symptoms with temporary fixes. Achhe baal ek din mein nahi bante (Good hair doesn't happen overnight), but with the right science-based approach, it is achievable.
