This one is for my clients with curly, wavy, or coily hair. I share ten essential tips, including how to identify your hair type, the 'Curly Girl Method' (CGM), and the importance of co-washing.
About Haircare From Root to Tip
Most people struggle with hair fall simply because they're using the wrong products for their specific scalp type. Whether you're dealing with recurring flakiness or just trying to manage frizzy, unmanageable lengths, the secret isn't a complicated ten-step process. It’s about making small changes—like applying hair serum on damp ends rather than dry, using microfiber towels to prevent breakage, and switching to sulphate-free cleansers that don't strip your scalp's natural oils.
Beyond The Basics: Your Scalp Health
I’ve learned that healthy hair is rarely about expensive salon treatments; it’s about what you do at home every single week. My approach to haircare is straightforward: identify your hair type, protect your scalp, and stay consistent.
My Core Haircare Principles:
- Scalp First: If you’re struggling with dandruff or oiliness, stop masking the problem with heavy oils. I manage my own seborrheic dermatitis by using specific anti-dandruff masks before I shampoo, ensuring the scalp is clean but not dry.
- The Damp Hair Rule: Never apply serum to dry hair. Always use it on damp strands after a wash to lock in moisture and protect against heat and pollution.
- The Curly/Wavy Method (CGM): If you have textured hair, stop combing it when it's dry. That is a recipe for frizz. Detangle with a wide-toothed comb only after applying conditioner, and consider co-washing—washing with just conditioner—if your scalp doesn't need a deep cleanse that day.
The 'Champi' (Oil Massage) Reality
We all love a good champi, but don't overdo it. If you have an active scalp issue or severe dandruff, skip the oil. If you do oil, do it a couple of hours before you shampoo, not overnight. Leaving oil on too long can attract dust and actually increase scalp build-up.
Why Ingredients Matter
I formulate everything to be sulphate-free, paraben-free, and cruelty-free. Why? Because the harsh chemicals found in standard shampoos often strip your hair of its natural moisture, leading to the very dryness you're trying to fix. If you aren't sure what your hair needs—whether it's protein for strength or hydration for softness—connect with me, and we can look at your current routine together.
