Behind the Decks: My Music Philosophy & Process
Ever wonder what goes on behind the console? Here’s a raw look at my process—no fluff, just real talk on the craft of DJing and why the vibe matters more than anything.
This is a feeling all DJs can relate to. You're about to drop a banger, and someone from the crowd requests that exact song. That's when you know you're perfectly in sync with your audience.
The DJ life isn't always glamorous. It's a grind of bus, club, another club, plane, and repeat. But the journey is more beautiful than the destination.
A quick but mandatory tip for all my fellow DJs out there. Always do a sound check before your show. Never just plug and play.
A DJ's 9 to 5 is more like a 9 PM to 5 AM. When the rest of the world is going to bed, our day is just getting started.
The reality of being a DJ. It's 90% intense focus on the music and the crowd, and maybe 10% posing for the camera when it's rolling.
If you think DJing is a piece of cake, I'd like to see you try. It's a craft that requires skill, practice, and passion. Always hire a professional.
The perks of being a DJ. If you know, you know. Don't worry, this video was approved by my girlfriend first.
What do DJs actually do? Well, besides playing music, we're also professional vibe curators, therapists, and sometimes, even babysitters.
A little Friday motivation. This video shows my journey from day one to where I am now. It's all about passion and perseverance.
A dream come true moment. Getting an approval from the legend himself, Sukhbir Singer. This means the world to me.
About Behind the Decks
A great set is never just a playlist. Whether I'm doing a sound check—which is non-negotiable, never just 'plug and play'—or scanning the room to see who’s dancing, the job is to stay in sync with the energy. If I'm about to drop a banger and someone requests the same song, I know I'm doing something right.
Being a DJ is 90% focus and 10% performance. People see the lights and the drops, but they don't see the hours of crate-digging, the gear checks, and the constant reading of the floor. My approach is simple: I don't rely on pre-recorded sets. Every gig, from a terrace sundowner to a high-energy Sangeet, gets my undivided attention and live mixing.
My Technical Setup
I treat my equipment like an extension of myself. I use industry-standard gear like the Pioneer XDJ-RX3 or the CDJ-2000NXS2 setup. Why? Because reliability matters when you’re mid-transition. You need gear that handles smooth cuts and heavy effects without failing. If you’re hiring me, expect professional-grade sound that doesn't glitch.
The 'Crowd-Reader' Method
I don't play for myself. I play for the people in front of me. I’m constantly mixing genres—blending a 90s Bollywood hit into an Afro-house beat or dropping a Tech House track when the crowd needs a pick-me-up. I watch the floor, gauge the mood, and shift gears accordingly. If the parents are vibing, I keep it retro. If the afterparty crowd wants it heavy, I bring the bass.
Why the 'Process' Matters
Real DJing is about curation and interaction. It’s about being a vibe-curator, sometimes a therapist, and always the one holding the floor together. When you hire me, you aren't just paying for a playlist. You’re paying for someone who knows how to control the room, manage the tempo, and make sure that by the time the night ends, nobody wants to leave.
