Behind the Decks: Afro-Latin & Bollykiz Beats
This is my happy place. Check out the vibe from behind the console as I mix the beats that keep the dance floor packed.
A candid shot of me at the console during a Latin Twist event. The best compliment I can get is when someone tells me they could not stop dancing, and that is the goal for every set I play.
The energy from the dance floor is everything. This is a quick selfie I took while DJing at La Cena, feeling the incredible vibe from the crowd as they danced to Salsa, Bachata, and Kizomba.
About Behind the Decks
When I am behind the decks, I am watching the dancers' energy, not just following a fixed playlist. If I see the floor slowing down during a long Kizomba set, I immediately pivot to a Bollykiz mashup or a high-energy Bachata track to reset the mood. It is about reading the room and ensuring the energy levels stay high for the full four or five hours of my set.
Being behind the console means I am part of the dance community first, and a DJ second. My approach is built on 15 years of experience as a Latin dance instructor, so I do not just play music, I understand the rhythm of a dancer's feet. Whether it is a Latin social night in Mumbai or a festival setup in Bangalore, my goal is the same: keep the dancers moving.
The Tech & Setup
I use a professional Pioneer DDJ controller and my MacBook, ensuring the sound is crisp. I arrive 45 minutes early for sound checks because bad acoustics kill the vibe, and I am not about that. I need the venue to provide the speakers and lighting, but everything else is on me.
The 'Bollykiz' Factor
My signature is mixing desi heat with Afro grooves. You will hear classics like 'Taal se Taal Mila' on a Kizomba beat or Punjabi tracks blended with Tarraxo. It is unexpected, but it works because it feels familiar and fresh for the Indian dance community.
Why Book Me
I am a techie by day and a DJ by night, so I appreciate structure and professionalism. I stick to the agreed-upon duration, and I always keep a mic handy for quick animations or line dance cues. If you want a DJ who actually knows the difference between a Salsa On1 and a Kizomba track, let's talk.
