Classical Reproductions & Renaissance-Style Murals
I bring timeless sculptures and classical art to life on canvas or your feature wall with a modern, sculptural touch.
The completed painting of Venus, based on the classic sculpture. This piece is a great example of a custom fine art reproduction for a client's home.
A video walkthrough of the finished Venus painting. The camera movement highlights the depth and realistic finish I achieved through careful shading.
Here is the painting in progress, with the original reference photo of the sculpture visible. This shows how I translate a 3D object into a 2D artwork.
An early stage of the Venus painting, where I've blocked in the main areas of light and shadow to establish the form before adding finer details.
A work in progress shot focusing on the torso and drapery. Capturing the soft folds of the fabric against the skin is key to the painting's realism.
The initial line drawing and base color blocking on the canvas. Every detailed painting starts with a strong compositional foundation like this.
An abstract underpainting and sketch for the Venus piece. I sometimes experiment with underlying patterns before building up the final realistic layers.
A detail shot of the finished painting, focusing on the delicate hand and the texture of the drapery.
This close-up on the face shows the subtle gradients and soft transitions that create the illusion of smooth, polished stone.
Another detail view, this time of the shoulder and neck area, showing how light reflects off the painted surface to create a sense of volume.
About Classical Reproductions: A Modern Take
I don't just paint copies of the classics. I build them up layer by layer. Whether it is a 24x36 inch canvas or a 10ft feature wall, my process uses a specific monochrome or sepia palette to create that 3D stone-like texture. You get a piece that feels like actual marble, not just a flat print.
Bringing the Renaissance to a Mumbai wall is all about controlling the light and shadows. I treat every commission like a sculpture, carefully blocking in forms to ensure the volume and depth are accurate before adding the final, delicate details. My work on the Venus reproduction is a prime example of how I translate classic 3D forms onto a 2D surface to create something that feels like it has weight and presence in your room.
The Process
For custom canvas work, we start with a 15-minute consultation to select the right reference image. Once we settle on the piece, it takes about 10 to 14 days to complete. I use artist-grade acrylics and oils, finishing with a double coat of varnish so the piece is protected against dust and humidity. For larger wall murals, I handle the execution over 3 to 4 days of on-site work. I use fine brushwork rather than spray paint to keep the textures tight and the details crisp. Every piece I create—whether it is a classical figure or a mythological scene like Krishna—is treated as a unique project designed specifically for your space, not a cookie-cutter reproduction.
Dexter
I'm Dexter. I spend half my time spraying graffiti on city walls and the other half obsessing over the details of a Renaissance sculpture. If you want art that hits hard but has that classic, timeless soul, let's talk.
