Competition is the ultimate test of preparation. It is where theory meets reality, ensuring my techniques remain sharp, practical, and effective for every student on the mat.

The results speak for themselves. Our team of 9 from Bangalore Budokan Karate won 14 medals at the 20th National Karate Championship. I was grateful to earn a gold and two silvers.

A close-up of my medals from the 2022 National Championship: Gold in weapon kata, Silver in individual kata, and Silver in team kumite. Each one is a reminder of the dedication and hard work.

A moment of victory for our team during the team kumite event. Standing with my fellow competitors and officials, united by our shared passion for karate.

My hand raised by the officials after a successful bout. Competing keeps my skills sharp and my spirit strong, and I bring that fire back to my students.

Our team celebrating our wins at the national championship. It was an honor to stand with these dedicated karatekas and our chief instructor.

A candid moment with some of the competitors. The bonds we form at these tournaments are as valuable as the medals we win. This is the spirit of our karate family.

Focused and ready in my fighting stance during a national tournament. Competition is the ultimate test of practice and preparation.

Executing a block during a kata performance. In competition, every movement must be precise, powerful, and filled with intention.

A low stance during my kata routine. This pose demonstrates stability and control, fundamental principles of Budokon karate.

Holding a defensive posture. Competing allows me to pressure test my techniques and bring that practical knowledge back to my self-defense classes.

About National Competitor & Official Referee

I don’t just teach; I compete. Whether I am performing Kata in a tournament or judging matches as an official referee, this involvement keeps my training current. When you train with me, you are learning techniques that are not just from a textbook, but ones I have pressure-tested on the national stage at championships like the 20th KBI National Karate Championship.

Training with a Competitive Edge

Competing is not about collecting trophies. For me, it is the only way to know if my foundations are solid. When I step onto the mat, it is to see if the Budokon principles I teach in my Bengaluru classes hold up under real pressure. This mindset of 'never lose, either I win or I learn' is the heartbeat of our dojo.

Why Refereeing Matters to Your Training

Being an active official referee and judge gives me a unique vantage point. I watch the mistakes others make, the technical errors that cost points, and the precise form that wins matches. This is not abstract theory; it is what I pass on to my students. You are learning the exact standards of the Karate Budokan International (KBI) network.

Practical Application

We do not train for hypothetical scenarios. We train for timing, distance, and control—the same metrics used in national championships. Whether you are a beginner looking to understand your basics or an advanced student preparing for Kyu grading, you get training informed by active, high-level competition experience.

If you are looking for a Sensei who still has skin in the game, this is where we start. We keep our training steady, inward, and focused on your personal growth.
