About Behind the Brush
Every custom piece starts with a conversation about what matters to you. Whether it's an album cover on a jacket or a pet portrait, I prep the surface carefully—deglazing leather or priming denim—so the paint stays vibrant through years of wear. It's not just about applying color; it's about making sure your story lasts on the fabric you love.
People often ask how I turn a plain denim jacket into something that looks like it belongs in a store. It starts with the prep work. If I'm working on leather sneakers, I chemically deglaze the surface to ensure the paint actually grips the material. For denim, I apply a specialized white primer base coat before even touching the brush, especially on dark washes. This ensures those colors pop and don't look muddy.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all art. When you book a session, we look at the placement together—whether that's a full 12x16 inch back panel on your jacket or a subtle detail on a pocket. Once the art is done, I heat-set the fabric and apply a water-resistant topcoat. My goal is for you to wear these pieces, not hide them away. Whether I'm painting a mural in your living room or sketching a portrait from your old photos, I treat the work as if it were for my own closet. Let’s create something that actually feels like you.
