Spin bowling is a mind game that starts with your grip. Whether you are working on your leg-spin flight or off-spin control, these tutorials will help you lock in the fundamentals.

This is a tutorial on the ideal leg spin grip. I explain a simple way for kids to learn by making a peace sign, taking the thumb out, and fitting the ball in between. This works for both leg-spin and chinaman.

In this video, I explain how to grip the ball for off-spin. The seam should face leg slip for a right-hander, and the fingers should not move from this grip from load-up to release.

This is part two of my leg spin grip tutorial. I explain in Hindi how the grip needs to be adjusted based on hand size and finger length to ensure the ring finger can apply maximum pressure at release.

This is part one of my leg spin grip tutorial in Hindi. I explain a common issue where leg spinners get cuts on the wrong finger, which is a sign of an incorrect grip that we need to solve.

This drill is to help finger spinners stop bowling down the leg. I am explaining that the body must be aligned towards the target at release, with a strong wrist position, to maintain control of the bowling lines.

This is a fundamental coaching session on the leg spin release. I am checking the student's grip and explaining how to cock the wrist and flick from the ring finger to generate spin.

To improve revolutions, don't squeeze the wrist. I am explaining in Kannada that a firm but relaxed wrist allows for more finger usage, and a higher release point helps build more spin.

Here are my tips for improving flight and dip on your off-spin. It requires a strong release point, going over the top of the ball, and maximizing finger usage without rushing your arm speed.

Use your angles as a leg spinner. I am explaining that by jumping straight towards the target, instead of coming in too close, you can use the angle to make the ball pitch on the stumps and turn away.

These are my methods to turn the ball more as an off-spinner. It involves maintaining a good wrist position and ensuring the spinning finger is on top of the ball at release.

About Spin Bowling 101: Grip & Release Tutorials

The biggest mistake I see is gripping the ball deep in the palm, which kills your revolutions instantly. If you want the ball to ping off the surface, you have to dominate the release with your fingers, specifically the ring finger. Even a minor adjustment—like changing the gap between your index and middle finger based on your hand size—can be the difference between a loose delivery and one that beats the bat. Don't force the ball; let the grip do the work.
