Hardy Plants and Flowers for Bengaluru Landscapes
I do not use generic plants that wilt under pressure. Every selection comes from my own nursery, chosen for how they grow in Bengaluru's soil and light.
A vibrant mass of poinsettias from my nursery. The intense red, pink, and white bracts show the quality and health of the plants I grow and use in my seasonal planting designs.
A close-up of Canna 'Pretoria' with its striking variegated leaves and bright red flowers. I use bold tropicals like this to create high-impact focal points in garden beds.
A healthy Camellia japonica in a pot, with glossy green leaves and delicate pink blossoms. I select plants that will provide beauty and structure throughout the seasons.
A dense planting of Calathea, a foliage plant known for its beautiful leaf patterns. The new leaves emerge with a reddish-brown color before turning green, adding dynamic color to a shady spot.
Red canna lilies in a park setting. Their height and bright color make them stand out against a background of green foliage and trees.
A Jerusalem Thorn tree in full yellow bloom. This drought-tolerant tree adds a delicate texture and a brilliant splash of color to the landscape.
A video showing a healthy, flowering Gardenia shrub in a pot. Its bright yellow flowers and glossy green leaves are a testament to the quality of plants from my nursery.
A wider view of the Calathea planting along a public walkway, showing how effective they are when used as a massed border plant.
An artistic, low-angle shot looking up through the leaves of a Calathea plant towards the tree canopy. This highlights the beautiful structure and veining of the leaves.
This shot shows the contrast between the older green leaves and the new, coppery-colored growth on a Calathea plant, providing multi-toned interest.
About A Closer Look: Plants & Flowers
When you buy plants from a standard garden center, you often get ones forced to look perfect for a week before they struggle in your environment. Because I run my own nursery in Mahalakshmi Layout, I install plants that are already acclimatized to local conditions. I choose species like Calathea or Canna 'Pretoria' not just for how they look today, but for how they will behave in your specific light and soil once they settle in.
Nature has rules, and I follow them. If you want a garden that lasts, you cannot treat it like a temporary decoration. My approach to selecting plants is based on what survives the heat and thrives in our local environment, not on what looks trendy for a season.
The Nursery Advantage
Everything I install is grown or sourced through my nursery operations. This gives me control over the quality of the soil media, the health of the root systems, and the hardening process of the plants. Whether I am placing a dense border of Cigar Plants to define a walkway or adding a splash of red with a Poinsettia, I know exactly how that plant was fed and watered. This leads to higher survival rates for your green spaces.
Designing for Texture and Structure
Plants do more than just fill space. I use them to create architectural lines and texture. I prefer bold tropicals like the Philodendron selloum for their large, deeply lobed leaves that create a dense, tropical feel without looking cluttered. For sun-exposed areas, I opt for drought-tolerant varieties like Jerusalem Thorn, which bring a delicate structure and brilliant color without demanding excessive water.
Maintenance and Reality
Even the toughest plant needs to be in the right spot. I assess your balcony or yard to match the species to the conditions. If you have a shaded corner, we use Calathea for its striking leaf patterns that handle low light well. If you have a full-sun terrace, we switch to hardier, sun-loving varieties. My goal is to install a system that requires minimal intervention from you, letting the plants do what they do best: grow.
Bloom In Green
I do not sell plants that look good for a week and then die. I run a nursery, I work the dirt, and I know exactly which species will handle Bengaluru's climate and actually thrive in your space.
