Laser Treatments for Pigmentation
I use advanced Q-switched laser technology to target stubborn pigmentation, melasma, and uneven skin tone, focusing on scientific, evidence-based results rather than trends.
Here, I explain how the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser works. It is a versatile technology for treating a variety of pigmentation disorders by breaking down melanin particles. I also discuss its use in laser toning and Hollywood carbon peels for overall skin rejuvenation.
I was excited to introduce the Q-switched Nd:YAG laser to my clinic. This video shows the inauguration of our new machine, which enhances my ability to provide effective, cutting-edge treatments for pigmentation, blemishes, and even tattoo removal.
About Laser Treatments for Pigmentation
Before we begin any laser session, I conduct a digital dermoscopy assessment using the Dermlite 5. This is not just about looking at the surface; it allows me to visualize pigment networks and follicle health in the deeper layers, ensuring we are targeting the root cause of your pigmentation rather than just treating the visible symptoms.
How it works
Many people turn to harsh physical scrubs or loofahs, thinking scrubbing harder clears the skin. In my experience at Therapeia, that does more harm than good, often leading to inflammation-induced pigmentation. What actually works is targeted energy.
The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser I use works by breaking down melanin particles in the deeper layers of the epidermis and upper dermis. Once the pigment is fragmented, your body's natural processes—macrophages and lymphatic drainage—naturally clear it away.
What to expect during a session
- Preparation: We start with deep cleansing to remove oils and sunscreen.
- Carbon Peel (Optional): For those seeking a 'Hollywood peel' glow, we apply a carbon paste that binds to debris before the laser pass.
- The Laser Pass: The Finebeam Q Plus laser provides a systematic pass over the face, focusing extra energy on stubborn spots or acne marks.
- Aftercare: Cooling is crucial to settle heat. We apply a high-SPF medical sunscreen immediately after because post-procedure sun protection is non-negotiable.
Realistic expectations
Results are not instantaneous. This is a medical procedure, not a quick-fix filter. We work together on a timeline, and consistency is the only way to see long-term clearance of pigmentary issues. If you have been struggling with stubborn melasma or post-acne marks, let's discuss a plan that relies on science, not guesswork.
